Netherlands have put themselves in a horrible position. Had NZ at 293 with 2 overs to go. 323 now needed which is almost impossible sadly.

And Rashid, to another excellent (relay) catch on the rope.

Taken a couple of fine catches Bangladesh, in contrast to their ground fielding which has been pretty average, even allowing for the dodgy outfield.

Woakes skies a ball that would have been given as a wide. 9 down, four balls left. Will England bat the 50 overs...?

England 364-9 (50 overs)

Malan 140 (107)
Root 82 (68)
Bairstow 52 (59)

Too many wickets (7) falling in the last 10 overs probably reduced the final total by 30-50 runs, but it should be enough.

just pointless some of these games
There were people on the rugby world cup thread a few weeks ago saying the RWC should be more like the cricket world cup. For my money the the cricket has the worst format of all world cups though I'm sure FIFA will resolve that shortly with a 100 team round robin played on Mordor and the Death Star soon

Pointless for whom? Smaller and associate nations need these games or cricket will only be for about 6 countries. This and the T20 world cup is lifechanging for nations such as The Netherlands due to the cash that comes with it. Central contracts can be handed out and more money can be pumped into the grassroots.

Ah thought it may be about money and not about if games would be good contests.

Right, and how do you suggest to improve competition? The money is crucial so players can focus full time on cricket.

In terms of the contests, The Netherlands beat South Africa last year. There is no West Indies in this years Cricket World Cup as they didn't qualify. The teams that are in the World Cup are there because they deserve to be there. But with such a gap in wealth and funds, how can we expect such contests?

I suspect had The Netherlands not thrown away 33 runs from the last 2 overs today's game against New Zealand would have been a much closer contest.
