There's a reason why 130 years after his death "This singularly important exhibition is the first ever retrospective devoted to the portraiture of Edouard Manet" ... it's shit. Dull, uninspired, mediocre and even the Dejeuner sur l'herbe is a smaller version of the famous one. She'd be better off saving up for a Eurostar weekend to Paris to see the 'real' one in the Musee D'Orsay.

Probably best not to mention that ... get in her good books by getting her a copy of 'The Judgment of Paris' by Ross King.

As for footy v arty farty ... Football has soul, drama, passion and shared identity. Art doesnt and going to this particular exhibition is like watching a conference 0-0 draw on Sky Sports with the sound off.

This is to see (her words) ' hundreds of priceless , world famous paintings'
Is she seeing the paintings being painted, by the living artists? What she's doing is like you going to see Liverpool's trophy cabinet. You're going to see highly skilled people play the greatest sport on earth, and no one knows what will happen yet. You have a once in a lifetime opportunity to witness something first hand - she's going to see something that will still be there, unchanged, in 30 years time.
