In the Justice system, evidence is given in court by victims. It may be the ‘wrong’ defendant in the dock, but the victims are still victims of a crime. They are helped by Victim Support.
They could be totally making a crime up 🤷🏻‍♂️ So not victims at all in some cases… Which is why it’s always safer to say ‘alleged victims’ like they do in the press when reporting before a trial etc..

If you dig a bit deeper (and I really really wouldn't), that isn't what he says...

.. that's just him saying what he said

.. when he actually said something different.

His constant defence (it's repetitive dirge) is his quotes are taken out of context. But he defends himself by doing that himself.

He is an incredibly dangerous individual taking very out of date ideas (many borrowed from radical interpretations of religions such as Christianity and Islam) and placing them into a "modern" context of guns, girls, gold, internet porn and bling. Throw in a large dose of Hollywood conspiracy theory for good measure. It wasn't the Romanian Authorities who arrested him you see, it was the "matrix".

Effectively the fusion of a hate preacher and snake oil salesman who is radicalising teenage boys for cash.
Yeh there’s certainly some weird games going on there - Morgan is a very good interviewer and doesn’t let it go or him to wriggle easily. No I def won’t dig - I saw enough in the video I listened to whilst falling asleep to last me a lifetime…!

If a victim is found to be lying, then they are committing a criminal offence, of either perjury or peverting the course of justice. As I said, it is Victim Support, not alleged Victim Support.
I worked with Victim Support Officers.

Fascinating chap.

( Just before our GBNews readers heads explode, it appears to be a small area within the building. File under fake news about fake news or something. )

The people who are radicalised into any irrational mindset are more often than not vulnerable. Those doing the radicalising know how to appeal to that vulnerability. Unfortunately teenage boys everywhere have forever experienced things that make them vulnerable to this exploitation from religion, patriotism, 'influencers' etc and not all have an environment or an upbringing or the social intelligence or critical thinking that protects them until they've developed enough or given opportunity to feel connected to society again in some way.

The indicators for vulnerability to radicalisation are things many of us will recognise and perhaps have experienced - low self-esteem, being bullied, unsure of identity or place in the world, not feeling a sense of belonging etc. Hear the likes of Tate with that in mind, a bullied teenage boy who doesn't fit in with his peers, who feels girls aren't interested, who is perhaps struggling at school, dislikes sport and music and the other things people around him identify with, and doesn't necessarily have a stable home environment or male role model...then suddenly someone seems to understand and explains not only are you not at fault, it's other people and you're a victim, but he also offers you a 'philosophy' as a way out. I'm not surprised he has an audience. Will they grow out of it? I'd be optimistic most will.
Wise words.

In my recent experience, I had to listen to someone claiming the most expensive thing that is mostly responsible for tanking our economy is the amount of money we are paying to house (in massive council houses, after a year in expensive hotels) and pay hand outs to....yes, it is....illegal immigrants. And that from an educated 71 year old. Who is now ovaries-deep into the Rwanda solution.

So it isn't just the spotty bullied male overweight teenage virgins that are at risk. Albeit one retired woman's Daily Mail is another disaffected yoof's influencer's twitter feed.

Sadly, when one is vulnerable, or even just a bit pissed off, the siren call of easy answers can be hard to resist. This includes nice kindly Christianity, for some. At least that's mostly harmless, and being hellbent on being kind and helping the vulnerable is not such a bad vice. Different strokes, but maybe a common rubric? I reach for a bit of scientific empiricism when I'm feeling a bit glum. My bad?

Russell Brand is a very Marmite person who I find talks some nonsense that comes across as thinking out loud, some borderline conspiracy theories, and some sense too, or at least says things that are relatable and helpful to me and many others especially around addiction and unhelpful mental habits.

Recently I heard an interview with him where, and I'm paraphrasing, he posited we're a species that worships, and one that craves connection. And in a secular society with the absence of the divine we worship other things that give us that dopamine hit but above all make us feel connected, and a lot of those things might not be good for us objectively or subjectively. I think perhaps there's truth in that, and why all of us are prone to looking for whatever we need to make us feel anchored in something and connected, which for some that makes them vulnerable to exploitation in a myriad of ways.

Interesting. When I teach students about the autonomic nervous system (fight fright flight and all that) I explain that for 99.9% of human existence we have evolved to be able to kill animals and other humans, rape women, flee or attack other men, eat and sleep. Then we learned to form groups, and make alliances for protection. So individuals were more likely to succeed and pass on their genetic material if they could fit in and be useful. Or to lead. Physical strength had been pivotal up to, what? Fifty years ago? And to keep going, yes the dopamine reward system helps us get up in the morning and do it all again. And as you say looking for whatever we need to make us feel anchored has become more and more important as we find we have increasing amounts of time on our hands. Time to think. Or not, as the case may be.

I watched Tate, the man who groomed the World on IPlayer last night.

Don’t like to say it but he absolutely owned the BBC presenter who interviewed him at the end.
