At the moment, Bet 365, William Hill and VC bet are all Non runner no bet. VC bet are also playing up to 6 places for an Each way bet. Whatever you do, bet with these guys if you bet now.

Always Waining : Won the Topham chase around Aintree the last 3 years on the bounce. Half the battle of Aintree is finding a horse that will take to the fences and that is a given for Always Waining. He may well go in the Topham again but it’s worth having a bet on him now – If he does go in the National he won’t be anywhere near 50-1 which he is now and with NRNB there is no risk to putting your money down (you can also back him at 12’s with Bet 365 in the Topham – He can only run in 1 and he will be less odds on the day).

Join Together : Does lightning strike twice? If you think so last years winning trainer Paul Nichols has aimed Join Together at the National all year and nine times out of ten a horse wins the National which is specifically aimed at this all year and not as an afterthought after a Cheltenham tilt. 20-1 is available - I’m sure it will shorter on the day.

Saint Are : Another Aintree specialist, Saint Are won the same race that Don’t push it did before he won the National the following year. It should never be priced at 66’s (bet 365)

Generally it is a bit of a lottery but you can certainly whittle the 40 horse field down to single figures if you look at the trends of the weights, form, age etc of the horses that have won in the past.

A lot of these trends are meaningless now the format of the race has changed. I'm not a massive fan of trends anyway.

Love the way people always want a tip for the most competitive horse race of the entire year.

The best tip is save your money.

Kind regards,

A gambler.

You can, it is very solvable these days since they changed the format of the race

Absolute rubbish but please feel free to solve it and give us all the winner.

The form of Colbert Station's win in Ireland has has worked out very well and I'm on at 18/1, 16s now. He will probably be the ride of great AP McCoy. I'm also on the 2011 winner, Ballabriggs, at 33/1. He's off a mark just 2lb more than his 2011 win and 8lb less than his 6th last year. He's been there done it and could do it again as he's been aimed at this race since last April

Absolute rubbish but please feel free to solve it and give us all the winner.

Of course it is an easily solvable race if you study hard, the days of dross horses winning are long gone and as for the stupid myth that a 2 1/2 mile specialist can win is absolute rubbish. Look for a proven stayer who has won a large runner chase over at least 3+ miles carrying 11st + and you won't be far away once you know the going which suits which horse.

Going up for the first day of the meeting - great day out with some quality racing but smaller crowds than for the big race.

Narrowed down to three...

Chicago Grey, stays all day, should get the right going.

Tofino Bay & Bostons Angel as good each way bets.

But as previously mentioned, it's a lottery really.

For all you horse lovers, check out this video I made for Aintree on the Grand National with AP McCoy

I'll probably get stick for this response, (this is only my second post on the board), but no real "horse lover" would ever enjoy the Grand National.

It is a race that seems to have been designed to in such way as to make it as dangerous as possible for the horse and rider.

For example the landing point on many fences is lower than the take off ground, they've crammed in more jumps per mile than in other races and the apparent concave shape of the fences with sighter bars halfway up the fence make it difficult for the horses to judge the height and position of the top of the fences.

The Grand National is a major event in the horse racing calendar and undoubtedly is a major revenue earner for Aintree but at what cost?
