Reminds me of a large office I used to work in back in the early 90's, which had a corner set aside with ceiling-to-floor glass panels for the smokers to go in and do their thing. Every now and then I'd have to poke my head round the door to say there's a call for so-and-so. My god, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face in there. I could have hung a medium sized hock from the cieiling, and it would've been thoroughly smoked by the end of the day.

Once the smoking ban came in they took those glass panels down, and that little corner of squared off ceiling was the colour of David Dickinsons arse. And the chairs STUNK.

Even worse were the train carriages when smoking was still allowed in the odd coach on the formation. Commuting back and forth to London it was a real disaster if you got on without realising you were in a smokers coach. Similar fog everywhere and you needed to get your suit cleaned as the stench hung to clothes for ages otherwise.

Get a plasterer in to skim it …

Why people endure hours of stress to do a job usually badly rather than get in someone who does it all the time and knows exactly what they are doing is beyond me . Life’s too short .

Hope you don't mind me asking, but how do you know the colour of David Dickinson's arse

Unless he was a faux naturist, with someone to reachround where the sun don't shine, my money is on pink.

Or yellow.

Possibly beige. Mottled, too.

Good thread this.

Cleaning a ceiling and painting with the Zinsser B-I-N stain block isn’t difficult, probably quicker than cleaning up after (some) plasterers

You’d have to prepare the surface for plastering anyway, so likely need to do the sugar soaping and a pva / prep coat before plaster, then you have your mist coat before painting properly but you’ll have to wait a week really for the plaster to dry properly. No plasterer plasters a ceiling without getting it all over your walls either, unless you go to the additional effort of taping and covering the walls too.:lolol:

Turns out the cheap one is a family member  Cost me £300 a day if I need a spread that might not be cheap to some people, I don’t mind as get the money back from the customer.

I pay him his going rate and usually add £20.
The other blokes are similar price. Day rate of about £150 I'd guess.

When did you last use him 1987 :D that’s seriously cheap these days. Every trade I know wants £300 a day to turn up and that’s for me the contractor in some cases. Labourers are on the £150’s.

Do you think that is because you’re in London?

As a prosecco socialist I have no idea how these lads pay their taxes with my cash.

There is that although Brighton is a seriously expensive area judging by the property prices. I’ve got to do a fire alarm system in Brighton and priced the same as I would London.

I’m surprised you are not charging more if you’re travelling from London to Brighton, travelling time and the price of fuel.

Still a good price tbh, I work with a company who do the fire risk assessments and they pass on all the alarm enquires. An ambition is to just do fire alarms nice clean work and healthy profits.

Behind My Eyes
I've googled and YouTube, so I'm pretty much ready to go.
But as is customary I'd appreciate some help and tips from normal people - failing that I'm asking here... ...boom tish.

Having steamed off wallpaper the, originally looking decent enough, ceilings now has more than a passing resembles to toffee popcorn.
(Oh the joy of nicotine raining down on me as I worked, was something to behold).

I'm not replastering.
So am looking for advise and products to cover/clean what's seeping through and take a white top coat afterwards.

All for as cheap as possible.

Ta muchly.

no idea, but that's a great song title :lolol:
