alright lads and lasses? a know-nothing writes..

what am i doing with this then? just dead heading the old growth? or cut right back and let the new growth shine? Last years tops are clearly dead but the stems are still alive and bright green ... will they regrow or is it cut back time?

Burn it to the ground.
Concrete over the whole area.
Never speak of it again.

Stat is sort of right! Cut it back as hard as you can down to the ground.
This web site isn't British, but all the info relates to what you would do here.

I'll be impressed if anyone knows this species although there are one or two contenders here who may....

Now I've moved my 10 year old raspberry plant to somewhere containable I guess I better investigate how to make it generate it's first ever edible raspberry.

I've not read the link but did look at the pictures, so there's progress!

Here's the plan.

I stake and wire across the oddity at the back of le jardin.

Take a few strong looking shoots and attach them to the wire.

Now here's the question:-

Should I then remove the rest of the new growth bushy bits in order to concentrate growth on the keeper shoots, I hope to grow upwards.

Nope, not reading all that!

I'm just back from my local purveyors of bamboo canes and cable tie emporium.

Fortunately they had plenty of ties and canes in stock so unless someone tells.me out of it my plan is set.

In simple terms, just knock up one of these with your canes and ties and you're away

Pearls before swine, Jack

I've never heard this before, so looked it up. Spot-on!

Stat - It won't take you more than a few seconds to click on the link, click on the pruning or staking section, and off you go.
It has taken me longer to type this than it would doing the above!
