Late 60s, early 70s, can't remember. York away. Punched in side of my head by a Brighton supporter for not singing loud enough.

Hove
Was probably about 13 years old walking down Goldstone Lane with the Bristol City fans walking the other way up
Got tripped up by one of them who proceeded to give me a couple of kicks whilst I was on the ground
I was pretty skinny and lanky at the time so was in no position to fight back against a grown man so just scarpered
Hold no grudges as just brushed it off at the time and also know a lot of people from Bristol since and they are alright
Never told my old man as he wouldn't have allowed me to go to games at that time if he had known
At a non Brighton game a few years later towards the end of the 80's got a kicking close to White Hart Lane walking from station to the ground
Not sure who the same was against but went with a Tottenham mate and got randomly punched by Spurs fans who wouldn't have known who my mate was supporting at that time, they were just looking for a scrap against whoever
Again we were pretty young and weedy so didn't really fight back much, they just ended up walking away with one of them saying 'They're not worth it' after a few more digs

Just once, at Charlton in the 70s. We won 4-0 ( not the one under Gus). I was on the large terrace on one side where the fans were mixed. I eas cheering our 3rd goal when someone appeared from nowhere, planted one on my earhole, and slunk off into the crowd. I was more shocked than hurt. And we won 4-0

Nearly got whacked by a Pompey fan who was going to thump me if the future Mrs Earle wouldn't shut up. He didn't though and neither did she:)

Never. Closest I came, and funniest I guess, was Bristol Rovers away when they were playing at Bath. Myself and two mates, one of whom was well over 6 foot, were walking back to our car after the match and I realised we were being followed by 4 or 5 Rovers fans, when I overheard the following conversation.

Frist bloke: "Look, those three are Brighton let's give them a kicking"
Second bloke: "**** off, you seen the size of that ****?" :lolol:

Had some fairly hairy moments as a youngster though where I've been scared shitless. White Hart Lane '77 or '78 springs to mind. And a couple at Fratton Park.

Weirdest experience though was being in The Shots pub the day of the FA Cup match with an Aldershot supporting mate when a load of Brighton turned up outside and it kicked of royally. Glad there was a back door to the pub that day!

Spurs friendly at home - think it might have been Gerry Ryan's testimonial.

You were whacked by Gerry Ryan's testimonial? Sounds like he could have done with a sturdier jock strap.

In the north stand sometime in the mid eighties, we scored and in the ensuing chaos I instinctively grabbed the nearest person’s coat tails in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent myself falling to the ground which earned me a considerable shoeing from an angry fellow Brighton fan!

Embarrassingly the only whacking I got at a game was away at Wolves in 1979 just before Christmas - when I walked into a lamp-post on the way to the ground.

Worth it for the 3-1 win and a Wardy hatrick (I think he even got one with his head if memory serves me!)- but I had a lot of explaining to do all through the Christmas celebrations as I sported an absolute shiner throughout.

Lincoln City away (98?) :catfight:

Was that the game where a handful of Lincoln fans decided to be in the front row of the away end and then celebrate when they scored? Let’s say they got a fairly good kick-in from a fair few of our fans after that and were then escorted out.

Brighton v Ipswich 1991. When we scored our first, someone in front of me down the front north stand jumped up on the fence and in doing so booted me in the face, giving me a bloody nose. The first and only time!

I was there that night

When they opened the gates just before the end of the game, loads of Wolves fans casually just walked in

Taking pop shots at random Brighton fans
No police escort back to the station either

On a highlight, the Brighton team were on the same train home

I was walking over Hove station footbridge and got punched on the nose by a Wednesday fan, late 70s. He broke my nose, loads of blood all over my Levi jacket. So, I thought, I’m going to go back to the station, and tell a copper because I don’t want to be nicked later cos of all the blood. The copper I told then insisted on going back over the bridge and looking for the Massive fans, even though I didn’t want to. As we’re going over the bridge a kid about 10 years old was climbing over the fence, having obviously bunked the train, so the copper nicks him , and all 3 of us walk back to the station. I’m covered in blood, the old bill has got hold of the kid by his collar, and everyone walking past thinks the kid has given me a good hiding!
That hurt more than the broken nose.
