And Pope is out next ball, and England declare on 524-4 (82.4 overs).

352 the first innings lead.

I thought Gordon Greenridge's was quicker. Looks like Pope beat him by 34 balls. I think Greenridge spent less time at the crease.

Rubbish. COuld have batted for another day and let everyone had a go, scored 1,000 and still won this game at a canter. All because they want to go and play f***ing golf.

What’s the point of playing the game out in a false fashion, it’s insulting to the Ireland team to just bat to 1000 simply to entertain the ‘fans’ who won’t be interested in the slightest at that point.

Better to play the game as you would play it if it were the Aussies, more of a match like scenario now where we will be trying to get these wickets tonight.

Indeed.

Just seems pointless to pass up the time at the crease. As an example, they mentioned in commentary, that Harry Brook has never played at Lords before. Why not give him an hour getting used to the surroundings, the pitch, etc out there. Instead he will now attempt to do that learning, in an Ashes Test. Makes no sense

Well we'd have certainly kept batting if it had been the Aussies!

Would we? Not for much longer IMO, 350 odd lead… evening to bowl at them? With the aggressive manner this England team approach the game I reckon they might have.

Just don’t see the point of batting and batting, it’s not representative of what we will face against the Aussies, with respect to Ireland.

Similarly, I do not see the point of a pre-Ashes warm-up test where 2 of our players barely get to bat or bowl.

It would have been a more useful exercise for England to have faced either the county champions Surrey or a Lions XI than this weak Irish side.

And, effectively meaningless.

The most curious thing..
It's a bit one sided, and not very interesting.

Presumably Stokes is not fit to bowl these days
