Bloody hell, I didn't even know he was ill. I first met him when I did a gig with Attila at the Roundhouse in about 1982. Top bloke; the 'Tetley Bittermen' is still one of my favourite rants from that era.

very, very sad news.

his penultimate column is really worth a read too:
Cell Out | News and Opinion | Philadelphia Weekly

"I put the phone down and let out a huge, self-pitying “Why me?” The answer, of course, is the same as the answer to Travis’ shit-awful 1999 international breakthrough hit, “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” Because you’re a f***ing dick. Now shut the f*** up and grow a pair."

a legend.

I emailed him the Philly link. He hadn't heard.

"Oh f***. I hadn't. He was a big part. of my 80s life. Just off to Glasto and i shall be ranting in his memory." was his reply.
Must have left it after you told him then, unless someone else used his name on there.

The final comments of Steven Wells in his last column for the Philadelphia Weekly before he died on Wednesday evening:

"Me? I blame it on sunshine. I blame it on the moonlight. I blame it on the boogie."

Oh, the timing...
