FOOTBALL STADIUM SITUATION.
John Prescott's decision giving permission for the stadium to be built in
Falmer is now quashed and we are back to where we were at the end of the second public inquiry May 2005. The government will pay for all the high court costs that accumulated over the last 12 months as they lost their case against our challenge.
We have now heard from Ruth Kelly's office (she is the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government which is abbreviated to DCLG). The letter is attached so that you can read it and see what the position is. We are invited to make new written representations to Ruth Kelly and she details four matters to be looked into which are listed under points 3a, b, c and d. This information will be added to all the previous information, which came out at the public inquiries. The deadline given is December 28th however Lewes District Council and Falmer Parish Council asked for an extension until February15th because there is too much work to do in too little time. We have now been granted that extension. After February 15th, Ruth Kelly will consider all the information and she will then decide whether to allow the stadium to be built in Falmer.
As you know we set up a fighting fund to pay for our anticipated high court challenge and we will now use the money raised to pay for this next round of the fight to stop the stadium. However if any villager who donated to the fighting fund does not approve of this action and would like their donation returned please contact John Burt.

3. Having regard to the Order of the High Court and the evidence available to the Secretary of State at present, she wishes to invite representations on the following matters:
a) The location of the site of the proposed development in relation to the built-up area of Brighton as identified in the adopted Brighton and Hove Local Plan 2005; and the significance of that location for the purposes of the Secretary of State's further consideration of the applications, having regard to policies in the adopted Brighton and Hove Local Plan 2005, the East Sussex Structure Plan 1991-2011 and the adopted Lewes District Local Plan 2003;
b) The interpretation and application to these planning applications of the Government's policy in relation to development in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) as stated in Planning Policy Statement 7 (PPS7);
including, in particular, consideration of the need for the proposed development, having regard to:
any national considerations;
the need for regeneration;
the impact of permitting the proposed development, or refusing it, upon the local economy;
c) The approach to assessment of the alternative sites put forward for consideration by the Secretary of State; and the merits of those sites including, in particular, the accessibility of the Sheepcote Valley site;
d) Any new, matters or-changes of circumstance (including in relation to.the proposed designation of the South Downs National Park) which the parties consider to be material to the Secretary of State's further consideration of these applications.
NOTHING THAT WE DON'T ALREADY KNOW, THE MONEY TO BE SPENT ON REGENERATION CONSULTANTS ACCORDING TO FALMER PARISH PUMP. WHAT IS A BIT CONCERNING TO ME IS THE HOARDING OF FPC TAX, APPROXIMATELY £22,349 COLLECTED AND STILL THINK THEY HAVE GOT OVER £15,000 LEFT OF THIS YEARS TAX. ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS OR COMPLAINTS TO THE AUDIT COMMISSION OR ANY OTHER CONTROLLING BODIES TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE NOT GOT A LARGE SUM LEFT OVER FOR NEXT YEARS TAX?
AND A QUESTION FOR ME, WHEN LDC GOT THEIR COSTS BACK FROM THE GOVERNMENT ON THE HIGH COURT CHALLENGE, DID THEY GET ANY COMPENSATION APART FROM THE LEGAL EXPENSES THAT THEY HAD SPENT? THANKS
