Just read an amusing report in todays The Times about the 'South Norwood Tourist Board' (I think thats what you call an 'oxymoron') challenging the Cumbria tourist Board's right to describe its area as 'The Lake District' because the suburb of Croydon claims to have more lakes.
'South Norwood has two lakes, at least, possibly a third (!). SNTB has decided that we have a greater claim to be styling ourselves as The Lake District.'
Cumbria Tourism made a rather damning reply pointing out that 'South Norwood has three ponds. We have England's longest lake (Windermere), England's deepest lake (Wast Water), 14 other lakes and hundreds of meres, tarns, and other bodies of water'.
Touche.
All very embarrassing for those nice Croydon types. Even if it is meant as a late April Fool. Almost as good as some of the PR gaffs from CPFC 2010.
