Here, there and every where
Could you please help me with e-bay?

I havce done nothing with the accouint for about two weeks, but recieved this e-mail:

Dear eBay customer,

During our regularly scheduled account maintenance and verification procedures,

we have detected a slight error in your billing information.

This might be due to either of the following reasons:

1. A recent change in your personal information ( i.e.change of address).
2. Submiting invalid information during the initial sign up process.
3. An inability to accurately verify your selected option of payment due to an internal error within our processors.

Please update and verify your information by clicking the link below:

http://cgi1.ebay.com/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?UPdate

If your account information is not updated within 48 hours then your ability to sell or bid on eBay will become restricted.

Kenneth Pavet,

eBay Safe Harbour Dpt .

then after following the link i get another e-mail a few hours later:

Dear valued eBay member:
It has come to our attention that your eBay billing updates are
out of order. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your
online experience and update your billing records you will not run
into any future problems with the online service. However, failure
to update your records will result in account termination. Please
update your records by July 30th.

Once you have updated your account records your eBay session will not be
interrupted and will continue as normal. Failure to update will result in
cancellation of service, Terms of Service (TOS) violations or future billing
problems.

To update your eBay records click here:

Worthing
It's probably that you gave credit card details at some time and the expity date has now passed. Just need to update the details.

I had the same sort of problem that I couldn't fathom with domain registration a few weeks back.

mmmm missed the PIN number bit the first time. If that's for real, it's definately dodgy as nobody should ask for that.

Are your details out of date? Check first, because there are a stack of spurious emails that go around asking for ebay account details and then syphoning off your pin numbers/security codes etc.

I've used ebay for a year now and have never had an email like that from them even after my account has been inactive for a month.

Never give your pin number to anyone on the internet, ebay should not need a pin number just go onto ebay sign in and update your details this way.
Hope this helps.

Oldest myth in the book. They never check what comes back, and if they do, they classify it all as ISP bounce mail, hence they assume your addy is dead

Quick way to tell its dodgy - why would eBay use IP addys instead of the usual cgi.ebay.tld and scgi.ebay.tld? They never would.

Also, all eBay UK stuff is run out of Ireland, no way is there any Taiwan stuff here :D :D

I had a very similar email from PayPal. Be very careful, they use HTML so that the links look valid, but when you actually click on them they'll take you to fake site.

I'd suggest if you every get a similar email and are concerned that it may be real, just login to the site as you normally would and see if you get any message/news items displayed.
