Lamptey is not a right back, he's a wing back. He's not defensively very good and just okay going forward.

The answer is YES we do.

Without someone with pace and power we will not be able to maraud down the right that Pervis and Mitoma do at present on the left. Teams will therefore know they can double-team Mitoma and cut out that threat, so will adjust their tactics against us accordingly. The loss of Mac and Caicedo will also mean they won't receive as much ball, or of the same quality.

Therefore, we need to compensate for what is inevitably about to happen for any manager that has done their homework on us. In theory, Boey and Buonanotte / Sarmiento / Adingra could offer a similar threat on the right, making us a better balanced side.

I'd rather we relied on Milner and Gross to do the job they're paid to do and do well rather than spending their whole time being emergency RBs

Yes... Lamptey injured, Veltman ageing. Karbownik... has he gone yet?

This makes a pleasant change from do we need another striker. Need is probably not the best word, we could be improved by adding a quality right back. A right footed Pervis, might make us a little more predictable and also more open to counter attacks, so be careful what you wish for.

I reckon Offiah has played as many games at centre back than he has at right back. I hope he has the quality to step up this season, but it may not be as a specialist full back.

Need? Short answer would be no. Veltman is not a De Zerbi type of player, which is why he was on the bench for the first month or so after RDZ was appointed. Same when he came to the club and Potter put him on the bench at first. But despite his "wrong style", both managers discovered that it is a lot easier to win with Veltman than without him. If Veltman is to be replaced in the starting eleven with a stylistically "correct" player, it needs to be a real beast of a player. If there is a player like that out there, I think we will try to sign him up. Otherwise I could see us just sticking with Veltman/Offiah and maybe Lamptey, with Gross/Caicedo (or even March) able to play there once in a while. I don't see us signing a right back just for the sake of signing a right back.

Not a priority to me, as Veltman’s brilliant and Milner will do a job.

(Lamptey’s an awful defender imho).

Far greater priorities on a finite budget are:

LB - if Estupinan got injured, who’s our quality replacement?
CB - Colwill was better than Webster, we need that level of player.
CM - should Caicedo go.

I think the situation for Right Back is Lamptey OUT + replacement IN.

It may well be that for Left Back the reserve to Estupinan is a combination of Milner and U21 Imari Samuels.

Yes. Bound to be one of the positions the club has prioritised, but we may have to cope with Veltman, Milner, Lamps and Groß if we can’t identify a suitable candidate.

Milner has played RB. He's played everywhere except CB and in goal. However, when not playing in midfield, he has been used far more as a left back than on the right. He's a great squad signing because as well as his vast experience, he can provide cover all over the pitch.
I have a feeling I have seen Milner drop into CB in a cup game when Liverpool's team consisted of Milner and a bunch of 16 year old, and somebody went off injured in the first 10minutes.

Another position is RW. I think we suffered without March. Yes, we have Enciso, Sarmiento and maybe Joao Pedro or Adingra who could play there but I can see why we are going after Kudus. He has a very high ceiling indeed, a great challenge for De Zerbi to get him to the top level.

I genuinely can’t recall … who started right sided midfield in the vital wins once Solly was out?

I kind of recall Buonanotte in a couple of those games. A hopeless passenger in one, effective in another game.

Don't think we do and I'll trust the judgement of the recruitment and management team. As stated, we have Veltman and Lamptey, with back up from Milner and Gross. Plus, I suspect Webster could also do a job there.

The club have had an effective ethos and that could all go pear shaped if we, as many seem to think we should, splash the cash.

LB and CB are more of a priority then RB followed by RW. If we only sign the first two and nobody else leaves then I'd be delighted
