That’s fair enough if said player has just scored hat loads and ripped up the champions league, but on this occasion he certainly hasn’t. Doesn’t make him a bad player but shouldn’t double his value.

That’s fair enough if said player has just scored hat loads and ripped up the champions league, but on this occasion he certainly hasn’t. Doesn’t make him a bad player but shouldn’t double his value.
I’m guessing he hoped to go there, bang in 20+ goals and get snapped up by a super elite team.
Hasn’t worked out that way, and maybe he’d now rather showcase his abilities in a bigger league. Can’t blame Benfica for wanting a good pay off if they believe he’s destined for bigger things.

Sounds about right, and it appears that we may think it was a bargain (hence our interest at the time and, if true, now), but not as much of a bargain as Benfica initially thought they had got. Didn't they say 100M just after they signed him ?

Fingers crossed that’s the case.
Ben white isn’t worth £50m, but paying for potential.
Benfica want a price where they feel he is worth that in the future. Not to mention they sell a lot of players and the money disappears. Sure I read benfica have made more profit than any other club in Europe from player sales.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be pleased to see him signed this window, but he's not done anything over the last 12 months that justifies a 50% increase on his transfer fee. There are plenty of other players out there that we could spend 20-30m on.

If he had smashed in 20/30 goals last season then he would be completely out of our price range. We are looking for players with potential because we can't afford the finished article.

According to what our newspaper found out, after placing 30 million euros on the table, the English have now reached 32 M€, plus an amount for objectives and also reserving a percentage in a future sale to Benfica. Only about 5 or 6 days after the event from the Brighton independent, that was the second bid of 32m euro that has already been rejected.
No reports yet of a third bid. Right now there is no, non rejected bid, on the table thats public
