Obviously there are suddenly loads of similar articles appearing from ‘football insider’ etc etc trying to put their own spin on this ‘story’ when it is all intact rehashes of the daily Mail - to save anyone posting it…!

Naylor basically reiterating what he said before. That this deal seems somewhat contingent on Benfica failing to reach the UCL group stages.

It's a weird one this. I tend to think that when the news is so out in the open and Naylor is talking about it, that it's a done deal.

That said, it could just be the agent trying to drum up some interest. Surprised other clubs haven't been linked, even with his current injury situation.

Only we could get in a situation where our star striker signing is dependent on PSV overturning a 2-1 deficit in the return leg a week before the transfer window shuts…

You might be right, but I'm not sure if it isn't a good thing... Screams of going the extra mile to try and land the first choice, rather than just giving up and signing any old crap...

I just hope he recovers from his knee surgery quicker than the mooted October/November time scale, if we do get him.

I just hope he recovers full stop. We all know players aren't always the same when they come back.
I trust the staff making the right decision on him, but still think it's one hell of a risk.

FINALLY - some transfer news from mainstream media for us to nibble on…

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...rd-25m-deal-Benfica-striker-Darwin-Nunez.html

Think the Mail are usually quite shit - not sure about this journo etc - chaileyjem or Not Andy Naylor may have something to add. Won’t stop us believing - although no quotes in the article!

Sami Mokbel was the first to report our interest in Tariq Lamptey

Don’t see why the CL is relevant. They have like six bloody strikers.

Nunez
Waldschmidt
Seferovic
Yaremchuk (just signed)
Vinicuis
Pinho (just signed)

I've not seen a story confirming a likely return date from his injury for a while but given that he's not currently training then unlikely he'd be available for matchday 1 (sep 14/15) or matchday 2 (sep 28/29) anyway.

I haven't been paying attention, but won't they be in the Europa league if they don't make it through?

Is the issue having enough players? or having enough money?

I did a search yesterday and couldn't find any stories talking about likely recovery/back in training dates. Do you have a source for the Oct/Nov return date because i've seen a few dates quoted on this thread from Sept to November and given reporting on this is hotting up then its starting to become more of interest !!

Is Vinicuis the lad Spurs had on loan last season ?
How much do they want for him ?
Looked ok in the few games I saw him play

I think we are after a number 9/ centre forward rather than a number 10 type player which I believe Vinicius is. Wasn’t he the player that had the shot that was miraculously tipped around the post by Big Rob Sanchez in the home game v Spurs?

hope we get this over the line tbh even though I think we will be OK if we get more goals from midfield and don't rely to much on forwards to score as they seem to spend to much time out wide than in the box

Money I think - but all seems a little far fetched… can’t imagine the whole transfer hinges on that - and doubt we’d wait around for it either…

The Mirror had a little more in their transfer blog - this afternoon

Never quite know how much this type e of story is just pure speculation so approach with caution...
