Danny Baker is to return to radio presenting – just five months after revealing he had cancer.

Baker, 53, said that he would be returning to broadcasting duties on local station BBC London 94.9 on the afternoon of April 18.
The star, who has also presented shows on Radio 1, Radio 2 and Radio 5, began chemotherapy in November. He then underwent radiotherapy in January.
Back on the mic: Danny Baker is set to return to presenting his BBC London radio show just five months after revealing he had cancer
The star revealed he would be returning to radio in a statement posted on Facebook.
He wrote: ‘I intend to un-retire again. I shall return to BBC London on Monday April 18th at 3pm to give it another go.

‘I realize this will reduce Steve Wright's overall audience figures by more than 300 but it's a tough game we're in Steve. It's just a few vowels from Radio To Rodeo you know...’

He added: ‘Anyway, unless the medics make some last gasp cruel objection, that's how it is. The 18th at 3. Not the other way round. Croaky, thinner but none the wiser. DB.’

Baker, who is also a scriptwriter for his friend Chris Evans and guest on BBC1's QI, was diagnosed with cancer in October – but did not reveal what form of the disease he was suffering from.

However, he was determined to remain upbeat, insisting at the time: ‘Once the quacks have soundly thrashed this thing I shall return like a rare gas and as if out of a trap.’

He urged his listeners to ‘keep yakking up a storm and laugh extra loud’ at the guest presenters on his shows during his absence.

Baker, who is married to Wendy and has three children, came to prominence as a writer for the music magazine New Musical Express in the 1970s.

He later became a roving reporter for London ITV magazine programme The Six O’Clock Show and presented shows such as Win, Lose Or Draw and Pets Win Prizes.

He also starred in a long-running series of ads for Daz. He was recruited to replace Dave Lee Travis on Radio 1 in 1993 and has fronted a number of shows for 5 Live.

He was sacked from the station after an on-air outburst about a referee in 1997, but has since returned.

He has also been a presenter for Talk Radio – the predecessor to TalkSport – and Virgin Radio, and also hosts the show for BBC London 94.9.

During the 1990s, Baker and Evans were regularly pictured out drinking with footballer Paul Gascoigne. Baker and Evans were blamed by some for leading Gazza astray in the build up to the 1998 World Cup, which saw the star dropped from the England squad.
