Thanks for the tip to flick back over.

They’re coming
They’re coming
THEY’RE COMING
THEY’RE COMING!!!

Oh, you’ve got it under control.

The speed the GFDJ rider was carrying up to his wheel and still couldn't get his tyre in front.

Scenes.

Now seems as good a time as any to ask some questions around this from The Strat.

IMG_20220403_155328_079~2.jpg

Why is it impossible to replace?
Can I replace it with a quill stem?
What does a quill stem do that the above doesn't?
Can anyone find a like for like (22mm) replacement that won't take a month to arrive from China?

In the absence of someone saying 'found one'.
I basically want a poster ( Fignon's Ponytail ) to write 'just put a quill stem in, it'll be fine'.

When I did l'etape du tour, I was overtaken going up the Tourmalet by a guy on a Raleigh Chopper. He told me that uphill was fine, it was the descents that were a problem.

Stat should do l'etape on his Strat.

Pogue should shut the f##k up.

Thanks

So if a quill will be fine I can go of a 4 bolt clamp, BMX stem, yes?

I dont see why not - but will you get the height, unless youre planning on fitting Raleigh Chopper bars? :D IIRC (from the mists of time) BMX stems were quite short in the "barrel" as they were set low down in the HT? ???

I might have an extra long 22.2 quill stem in the garage - let me have a look tonight. If I have, I will post it to you...if you want it.

Great thanks.

I'll wait until after the next traunch of deliveries then investigate that further.

Stem, bars, brakes, grips and tassels and hopefully The Strat will be roadworthy.

At which point I'll have to return to the real world

Thanks that's very kind but tbh a new one with free postage would probably be cheaper.

Sussex, by the sea
I spent 2hrs dicking about with wheels and tyres yesterday

28mm do not fit in my Ally pug, 25mm max

some inner tubes are paper thin, others are bigger than the tyres ( slime) and you can't shove it all in there (ooerr mrs)

old steel frames are narrower at the back for 6 speed, not 8 speed . . .but the frame will bend/flex to fit . . .

@stat. what mags? don't look like skyway tuff 2 ? or do you have a pair of yellow ones in the freezer?
