One can understand the importance of dealing with the nation's debt but there certainly appear to be some anomalies in the recent spending cuts announcements. Overseas aid remains untouchable, and the £60m earmarked for Pakistan will go ahead. Just in time to help the Pakistanis buy some of the 14 new F16 jets for their air force.

Shome mishtake shurely, cuts for the RAF, but money for the Pakistani Air Force!

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is negotiating with the United States to buy 14 additional F-16 fighter planes, Pakistan defence officials said on Sunday, following talks aimed at reversing tempestuous ties between the allies.

The United States and Pakistan have agreed to fast-track pending Pakistani requests for military equipment as the two step up security cooperation, Pakistan's foreign minister said on Wednesday during a high-profile visit to Washington.

A senior Pakistani defence official told Reuters that Pakistan was asking for 14 new F-16 planes.

PS: Don't mention the £800 million India got, about the same as they spent on their recent space development programme!

I did wonder whether any of our Harriers would be going that way. We have sold Sea Harriers to the Indians before and I'm sure we have sold Naval Ships to the Pakistanis.

why dont we sell the Ark Royal?

Is this the same RAF that is getting an extra 16 Typhoons it doesn't want, at a cost of £2.7billion, just so that the government doesn't upset the arms industry? Or the same RAF which, as part of the MoD, is only having to take 8% cuts, when social housing is taking a 50% cut and university teaching an 80% cut?
