Seconded and also born in the town, sadly. No offence Crawley Gull. Its not the worst place in the country, there are loads more places that are worse than Crawley, but the towns not really my cup of tea.

In the early/mid 70s it was a hotbed of Chelsea support. I think a few came over to us during the 'Glory' era but certainly now when we visit friends on the Maidenbower estate it seems to be all Palace and Chelsea with the odd red shirt thrown in.

Crawley is full of johny come lately chelsea fans, before the abrhamovich thing we used to see about three or four chelsea fans waiting at three brisges on the opposite platform, then when chelsea started doing well all of a suddent the platform was full of them. I work in crawley and the onyl two albion fans at where I work ar eme and anothe rchap who both live in horsham, all the crawley residents are either chelsea or palace fans.

Yeah it's interesting that Palace seem to have made massive inroads into places like Crawley (where they used to be pretty non-existent 30 years ago) but have 'lost' places like Coulsdon which you would have thought would be their heartlands. My grandparents used to live in Coulsdon and it was taken for granted that everybody supported Palace, I was talking to a guy who lives there a few months ago and he reckons it's at best 50/50 with Chelsea now. As a case in point he's a Chelsea fan depsite being born in Mayday Hospital and living in Coulsdon/Purley all his life. Mind you I was a Chelsea fan when I lived there too!

It's definitely all Chelsea (Palace and Brighton barely feature), although my wife picked up "we are Brighton" for me from the discount bookshop in the shopping centre there for a bargain £4!

Chelsea in Crawley THEY`RE NOT REAL FANS It`s all bollox. If Palace or Brighton were a succesful club as Chelsea are "at present" then you would see hundreds if not Thousands of the respective clubs shirts being worn in Town. In the 70`s early 80`s everybody supported Liverpool, late 80`s early 90`s it was Arsenal. All they do is wear the shirt but never go to a single game they`re what I call plastic fans and mould into what ever suits them at the time.

THANK YOU.

Incidentally, how many of these people on this thread rubbishing the place have actually spend more than half an hour there in the recent past? No way is it as bad as its reputation...

To be fair I worked in Crawley for 6 years in the nineties and Chelsea were definately the team of choice down there back then. But who cares the place is a shathole.

True. I go there quite regularly and it's not too bad (don't go at night though!). Quite honestly the middle of Tunbridge Wells (the pedestrianised bit) is more chavvy than Crawley.

I reckon things will change when we get Falmer. I know a lot of people from Crawley who've said they'll go down to watch them when we get our new stadium. They are 'THE team' in Sussex after all.

I think people from the rest of Sussex are a bit hard on Crawley. It's not that bad. Having said that am glad to be at uni in Guildford now! A bit nicer! Suprising how much Brighton I've seen in Guidford actually. There's a car just up the road from me with a huge Brighton Flag in it. We're everywhere! :ascarf:

By the way, no-one actually supports Crawley as their first team. They're just a little local team people go and watch. I've seen people wearing Brighton, Palace, West Ham and chelsea shirts when watching Crawley play.

I work here, and occasionally socialise here, it isn't a total shithole its just a large percentage of people who live there who bring the place down, for a small-ish town the nightlife is surprisingly active if not good. And for those singletons lots of birds who aren't that fussy

I agree with the sentiments that its not the place itself but the actual people who live there that make it the shithole it is.

Although early nineties it really was bad on both counts.

I agree with what people here have said about Crawley, its not as bad as most people make out it is in all fairness. Just a shame most (not all) locals, here are idiots. I have a soft spot for the Reds, but I am looking to move out the town the next few years still.

Crawley's not that bad as new towns go, I used to live near Skelmersdale which isn't much cop and I used to pass through Kirkby which is dire.

I also lived for a while in Bracknell which has less atmosphere than an empty Withdean.
