counties in england never to have a league side....ever, ever EVER?

Having spent a sleepless night worrying about this, I have come to the conclusion that the answer is ...

Cornwall, Somerset, West Sussex

With Westmorland, Rutland and the Isle of Wight sneaking into the frame if you want to ignore the fact that, for part of the time we are talking about, these counties were unified with other counties that had league football clubs at the time.

1. Cumberland
2. Northumbria

According to the old maps.

Bollocks. Barrow was never in Cumberland. Never ever. Look at your old maps closely.

And Newcastle was in the county of Northumberland, but the kingdom of Northumbria -- which stretches from the river Tweed to the river Tees and is bounded by the Pennines.

Chester play in flintshire.

Also, Wales isn't actually in England

Nor is Scotland.

We had a Swiss visitor at our company a while back. He had just been to watch the golf at Loch Lomond, and on his return our resident nasty little Scot asked him if he had liked it. Swiss fella replies, "Yes I did, Scotland is a really beautiful part of England, isn't it?"

Scottish knob very annoyed, but not nearly as annoyed as when the rest of the office had a whip round and bought his football-mad daughter an England shirt for her birthday! She loved it, and wore it all through the world cup.:)

So the answer is Cornwall then.

(ignoring the bollocks about East West Sussex blah blah).

no, because SUSSEX isn't a county

east sussex and west sussex are counties

east sussex has had a league side (us), west sussex has not, although it has had a professional side (crawley)
