No, really? Thanks for the history lesson

Sorry, it was a glib comment based on my previous post.

I mean that lots of Australians do not believe what happened is part of their history. They avoid responsibility by blaming everything on the Brits. Even though many atrocities were still happening well beyond Federation.

I was a tad touchy. The thread subject matter itself tends to get my hackles up, then having a racist pop along too just adds fuel to my fire.

All good. Like I say there is a long way to go over here.

Australians have a terrible reputation for racism and I would like to say that on the whole most I meet are not and are decent people. Some of the ones who come on here though . . . Very embarrassing.

Oh I see. If people don't hold fashionable pinko views you get upset and label people. Typical leftie. As much as I hate the scumbag, I can see why people gravitated to Trump in the fight against the loony left.

Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle are already open to tourists.

Only parts of the estate are open to tourists. Merchandise would still be sold relating to the history of the institution. Until you seriously attempt to estimate the potential impact generation of a post-monarchy Britain with what we have now these figures are incomplete. With them you can then look at the cost of maintaining the institution, lost tax revenue etc and make an economic assessment. However for me the main thing isn't an economic argument. I would like to live in a country in which any child can potentially rise to any constitutional position. I know that this sounds naive given the many structural obstacles most would face (which also need to be addressed politically) but it seems absurd/obscene to me that an individual will automatically become Head of State simply by accident of birth. Realistically I know that this will not change in my lifetime but I can't support it.

So who did you have in mind for the "rascist" label? I've had indigenous friends, acquaintances and colleagues as far back as I can remember and it can be guaranteed that you haven't so you're talking out of your arse. Just because someone doesn't want race injected into Australian Parliamentary processes doesn't make them a rascist. When it comes to racial and ethnic issues, uneducated fools such as you seem to be totally incapable of seeing nuance rather than viewing everything in black and white, pun intended.

This must be the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while, by that logic I guess the South Africans should have been thankful to their apartheid government because they didn't wipe them all away? I had heard that Australians were horribly racist towards the original inhabitants of their country but reading it firsthand is quite something
You're talking out of your arse mate. Get yourself an education and if you have the intelligence to go with it which is doubtful, you'll be able to get some insight into issues which are a bit more complex than you seem capable of handling. I'm arguing that British colonization was probably the lesser of a variety of evils and you've thrown South African history at me which if you didn't know, also involves the Boers.

Firstly @1066familyman was historically correct.

Secondly the “some of my best friends are black” defence really isn’t a good look.

Thirdly, you’re new in this “pub”. Be nice or the bouncers will be round to escort you out

You, mean labelling people like "morons' and 'shrill Minorities'.

Not really sure what I labelled you in the post you have responded to, just pointing out that I feel embarrassed (not upset as you have foolishly assumed) by some of the more vocal Aussies on here and that your horrendous views are not necessarily shared by all your fellow country folk.

Any way you have got your culture wars bingo full house (impressive in only two sentences) so you can claim yourself a victory over the "fashionable pinko" "Leftie" and avoid actually having to justify your bullshit with anything approaching good sense.

And I'm arguing that being the lesser of two evils doesn't make something good or not worth complaining about. If I broke someone's leg on purpose should they refrain from complaining about it because I didn't kill them?

No just kindly remind them that the next person along may have killed them.

Maybe you should ask them to be less shrill and perhaps thank you for saving them from the other fella.

If the cap fits and all that, and I'm pretty sure it's made to measure for you, judging by your subsequent responses.

As you mention education, you might want to check how to spell racist correctly. Surprised you got that one wrong really. I thought experience teaches wisdom, but clearly not in your case.

Anyway, I'll leave you to it. Seems my bingo card is already full and as someone once said... 'Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it'.

Haven't read the posts on here, but my thoughts on the televisual performance yesterday is that I couldn't help thinking the whole thing could do with a bit of the Danny Kaye knighting treatment, which always brings a smile to my face...

Enjoy....
