Coppell rules out McKenzie bid

Brighton boss Steve Coppell has dismissed reports he is prepared to offer £500,000 for Peterborough striker Leon McKenzie.
Coppell is keen to strengthen his strikeforce following the sale of Bobby Zamora to Tottenham but has ruled out a bid for McKenzie.

He told the club's official website: "At the beginning of pre-season I was given a message that he may have been available. I made a discrete phonecall about him and I was told he was under contract.

"I know how highly Barry Fry thinks of him and I know Barry doesn't give anyone away. My interest was cut then at the initial phonecall.

"I've not shown any interest since, yet I read in the paper that we're making a £500,000 offer. Wrong on both counts. One, I haven't been in touch, and two, I don't have half a million pounds."
