I just got this text, I presume its some sort of joke that I can't understand.

If im being thick can someone explain it too me!

"One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to flght, faced each other back to back, drew their swords and shot each other"

Makes no sense at all to me!!

It is part of a song that circulated schools when I was about 10.

"The deaf policeman heard their noise..." etc. etc.

Ah here it is...

What the Blind Man Saw (lyrics) (MP3)

One bright day in the middle of the night
Two dead boys got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other
A deaf policeman heard the noise
He came and killed those two dead boys

I remember that from my childhood. It is supposed to read...

"One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to flight, back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other"

That's the version I know.

And continues...

"A one legged donkey walking by, kicked a blind man in the eye"

Which is rubbish, really. Blind men still have eyes.

Another one, probably from the same book.

One fine day, a long time ago
A grasshopper stepped on an elephants toe
The elephant said with tears in its eyes
"Pick on someone your own size"

*sigh*

Way down deep in the middle of the Congo, a hippo took an apricot, a guava and a mango. He stuck it with the others, and he danced a dainty tango.

The rhino said, "I know, we'll call it Um Bongo", Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo.

The python picked the passion fruit, the marmoset the mandarin. The parrot painted packets, that the whole caboodle landed in.

So when it comes to sun and fun and goodness in the jungle, They all prefer the sunny funny one they call Um Bongo!

Nestling in green nowhere
The one that really used to freak me out when I was a nipper was that one that goes
"Boys and Girls come out to play,
the moon is shining as bright as day
leave your supper and leave your sleep
come join yuour playmates in the street!"

For some reason I associated it with Ghosts or Vampires...the whole idea of playing outside in my jammies used to blow my mind.

I heard this followed on from Easy's line;

'A clever man called Algie looked away, he thought he saw straight men being gay'

One, two, Freddy's coming for you.
Three, four, better lock your door.
Five, six, grab your crucifix.
Seven, eight, gonna stay up late.
Nine, ten, never sleep again.
