I don't get much time now, as work is far busier, but I used to treat myself to a half hour break at a great little Aussie-owned independent coffee shop in Great Titchfield Street called Kaffeine. They are a living wage employer, which makes me approve of them even more, and their Flat White and hot chocolate are something else instead. Only go to the chains on the motorway, railway stations or if a church colleague wants a coffee. Otherwise I drink filter coffe at home or in the office.

Like coffee, but very very rarely visit any coffee shop (once per year) have no brand preference.

there is a costa franchise in my office, despite the company providing free tea and Nescafé to all employees I am amazed at the amount whol will que up to buy a coffee

You're lucky we don't get the time to eat/drink

Not if you want to get home for 3-30 PM :)

I usually go to the cafe on a Saturday with my youngest lad after I have taken him to football training, he doesn't need to be asked twice.

I need to spend more time in the cafe and less time in a loft during the working week though :)

Like some have mentioned on here, don't go near the major coffee shops. The small cafes here all serve better cups and at a better price

Never use any of the large chains always if in need of a coffee try and find an independent or hotel or pub

This. Don't like Starbucks, Costa etc. Use the cafe/deli which a few Albion players frequent in Westdene most.

To the best of my knowledge I have ever had the occasion to go in any of them, remember being on a job and the customer popped out and asked me if I wanted a "coffee" and brought one back with him, but these places are not on my radar and never give it a thought to go in one, secondary I guess is that they generally are in pedestrian area so off limits to us car drivers to "pop in "

Hither (sometimes Thither)
I went into a Costa in Dalston a weekend or two ago, but mostly for its positioning on the outskirts of a mall I intended to enter and Sainsburys shop at opening time. Anywho, the amusing, to me at least, thing that happened was that they must've had a new member of staff there on her first day. She seemed, at a guess, Bulgarian. I ordered a pair of soya lattes, and her reply was "2 soya wartays?". Not wanting to embarrass her, I smirked invisibly and just nodded. Unfortunately, for her, she then shouted out 2 soya wartays! to the experienced lady on the machines, with all the confidence in the world, who turned around with a what the hell loud enough to get through the unforgiving whirr of device she was on. LATTES, she said. THEY MEAN LATTES. The Bulgarian girl looked toward me with an element of mild shame, but I quickly went away. Anywhence, the girlfriend and I now use the term soya wartays whenever we can.

We have a Costa locally, which my wife in particular likes, but we both prefer caffe nero - just don't have one too close by.

In Southampton there is a place called Mettricks (more than one, actually) which does extremely nice and high quality tea, so we are veering down that road at the moment.

Apart from anything else, and being diet/health conscious, one realises how many calories there are in the coffees you buy through the milk used - although you can do the skimmed option.

Nescafe? What about Espresso at home? Bought myself an Espresso machine off Ebay, does the job. Can't see the appeal in spending time in cloned coffee shop chains, 20p coffee for £2.80...

That said it was a very smart move by Whitbread to get into coffee...
