The word "ambition" appears to be getting overused by the same people that overuse "passion."

Would anyone care to tell me what the current definition of "ambition" is?

Maybe it's just me, but given that we started last season with Barnes, Ulloa, CMS and Hoskins, and now we have just CMS, I think it is fairly safe to assume that we will be getting another striker in.

Personally I would find it hilarious if a 'big name' came in, and O'Grady (assuming he signs) ends up scoring more goals.

I also find it hilarious how hundreds of people on an internet forum seem to know what is best for the club, more than the people that are actually running it. Time for a bit of an NSC break, I think - or just avoidance of these type of threads while I wait for official confirmations.

Fair enough. I don't claim to know more than the people that are running the club, but I do know what excites me and what doesn't. Losing Ulloa doesn't excite me. Signing a striker from a relegated team and whose record reads as follows (below) doesn't excite me.

2003–2007 Leicester City 24 (1)
2004–2005 → Notts County (loan) 9 (0)
2005–2006 → Rushden & Diamonds (loan) 22 (4)
2007–2008 Rotherham United 51 (13)
2008–2009 Oldham Athletic 13 (0)
2008 → Bury (loan) 6 (0)
2009 → Bradford City (loan) 2 (0)
2009 → Stockport County (loan) 18 (2)
2009–2010 → Rochdale (loan) 24 (15)
2010–2011 Rochdale 66 (16)
2011–2013 Sheffield Wednesday 51 (9)
2013 → Barnsley (loan) 16 (6)
2013– Barnsley 40 (15)

Actually, the more I look at his record, the more difficult I find it to believe that we'd want to spend £50 on this player let alone the amounts that have been touted about.

He scored 15 goals in the Championship last season in a team that were relegated - decent squad striker IMO. It's not as if he's an unknown from the lower divisions that has never played at Championship level.
He will be good for us I have no doubt about that.

Have you had a look at his record? Read it again. Does that really excite you?

people saying about stats , the last 2 seasons in the championship for 2 clubs he got 25 in 77 appearances so 1 in 3

even if you take his early years in the championship as a a teen / early 20's his overall record is still 1/4 which would still be double figures for the season.

For 500k , getting a 1/3 striker is good value.

We need numbers and not every member of the squad is a world beater. We need options like this.

Options people / options

You dress it up nicely. I'm still feeling "meh!"

Yes I have, what he did on loan at various clubs years ago doesn't interest me. What interests me is what he has done in the last couple of seasons and the answer to that is he has produced a good return of goals in struggling teams.
I repeat, he will be a good squad striker.

It says that if you look at the last few seasons at our level you would expect Ulloa to get 21 goals and you would expect O'Grady to get 15. That 6 goals is £6.5m pounds. Also O'Grady played 40 games last season, Ulloa played around 50 in his whole time with us. If you take that into account you could expect them to, feasibly, score about the same.

You could even argue that O'Grady's goals are worth more by virtue of the standard of player that he's been playing with. I can't see anything in this deal that doesn't strike me as at least worth a go. It's low, low risk for a player who's done at least as well as Ashley Barnes at this level (for a lot less money, I assume than Barnes was asking for.)

When a club like Brighton spends over a million on a player you tend to get excited regardless if you know the player or not. This pretty much applied to Leo. It's not often we splash big is it?

So if we paid £1.5m you'd be excited?

I cant believe people are still whinging, i would say he is a similar player to Troy Deeney who watford fans were moaning about when they signed him from Walsall.
If he was Spanish with this scoring record for a team relegated from the 2nd tier i wonder how people would view that?

Hey, everyone's right. I've changed my mind. I'm really excited that we're signing a striker from Barnsley.

I've got it!

It was Chinese whispers.

Someone has said something to Sami about resigning Barnesy and he's misheard and said something to Burke about signing a striker from Barnsley. That has to be it.
