Dick Advocaat was confirmed by Sunderland yesterday raising a bit of a quandary. He was initially appointed March 17th. On 27th of May, Sunderland officially announced he wouldn't continue as head coach. Yesterday, they announced he had signed again. None of this affects Hughton's position, so it isn't overly important, but, do we take his reign as from March 17th or from June 4th?

If it had been a caretaker that was then given the job I would count it from the start of the caretaker role, so I would take it from March personally, but not sure who owns the rules!

I wouldn't have thought so. Firstly, as of July 1st (the date I'm taking as the start of pre-season 2015/16) Hughton will drop two places when Barnet and Bristol City come up from the conference. But also, there are currently only three managers who started in July or August, and one of them was Van Gaal whose start was delayed due to finishing his duties at the World Cup. I think July and August tend to be quiet months for managerial change. Not unheard of, but unlikely to occur frequently enough for Hughton to move up ten spots.

There are seven who started their jobs in September, though three were on the same day after a flurry of activity, it might be possible for him to get to top fifty by the end of September.

I was taking the start as being the first game of the season and some having a poor pre season and chairmen getting worried. I do however agree end of September is more likely if teams knocked out of League Cup by lower clubs.

I think at this point in the summer you generally get the sentiment of 'give him the summer to work with the players and try to sort out his problems, see what sort of start he makes' then the transfer window closes only four weeks after the start of the season. We had 7 matches over 21 days in August this past season (incl two league cup games). I think most owners try to give managers a few more games than that. There are exceptions (such as Leeds, Crystal Palace), but not enough, I think. Though, who knows, there could be a rush of crazy decisions.

Might get a couple of fallouts when the manager doesn't get the backing he expects to sign the players he wants, but on the whole I agree there shouldn't be a great deal of movement for a few weeks.

As it is the first of July, the start of the year for player contracts, a typical start of pre-season, I've made the decision to make this the start of 2015/16 football. As such, Barnet and Bristol City are joining the league, Cheltenham and Tranmere are dropping out.

This means Chris has dropped down two places to 58, and I figured I'd post the list as I have it. I know there is some discrepancy with Wikipedia and LMA - both of which were a little inconsistent. The LMA sometimes go with when the contract is signed, sometimes when the manager starts work (e.g. Van Gaal with Man Utd). Wikipedia also has a different order for when there are several managerial changes on the same day.
