.. anyone else annoyed that this was credited to your Smartcard "to purchase either merchandise or refeshments on your next trip to the Amex"?

In my world it's simple - you overcharge someone, you refund them. You do NOT dictate that they will receive reimbursement by choosing more goods!! oh, and you would normally answer their email about the subject as well.
