many pubs down here are ruined. The Hanover ones mentioned are all quite nice places to drink though some have been dicked about with too much

Would love a proper old school pub with fires, a grass beer garden, a skittle alley, proper pub food, pies and the like, and a telly and random guest ales and a crap juke box and stuff

Within 10minutes walk of my house I've got the Battle of Trafalgar (nice beer and garden), The Yeoman (terrific food), Evening Star (terrific beer), The Albert (the best place to watch live music in the city), The Nelson (Harveys!!!), The Great Eastern (just a damn nice pub), The Basketmakers (lives up to the hype, terrific beer and great simple reasonably priced pub food).

I quite like the pubs in Brighton.:drink:

Very much so. The new chef (that replaced the new chef that smashed his ankle up drunk who had replaced the shit chef that replaced Spats) used to chef at Due South. She is meant to be very good indeed.

Not that women can cook properly.

I think it's a women anyway, I've not been, just going by what my father says and he knows his shit.

I feasted in there two weeks ago and it was definitely a chap on kitchen duty

ASBOlutely superb food it was too

What makes you say that? Seriously, The Sportsman, what's not to like?

The queues
The lack of Sky
The lack of a jukebox
The food (typical mass-produced, dried-up rubbish)
The playground
No garden (that playground doesn't count)
The queues
The total lack of atmosphere (prevalent in chain pub/restaurants)
The toilets (a ten minute walk up the stairs)
The queues

Oh, and did I mention the queues ?
Other than that, its great.

Fat and jolly, like a chef.

He had some facial hair I think, and went outside to smoke a fag with his pint. I think he was pissed

SPATSO!

I used to work with Spats in the Greys, for a good couple of years. He's the funniest and nicest man I have ever met in my life, EVER. Brilliant person to have a lock in with and a ridiculously talented chef.

He's extended an open invitation for me to go see him in his new place in Cornwall, with a promise that he'd do all the cooking as long as I bought all the booze. I think I'm gonna go down some point in August. LARF.

And yes, he probably was pissed.
