This debate has been had many times before. I always find it interesting there seems to be a correlation between spelling, grammar, coherent arguments and swearing and with those who blame immigrants for a lot of the UKs problems. Perhaps educate yourself a little bit to see your blame is misplaced.

Housing problem : Apparently caused by the government giving free houses to immigrants, really caused by super wealthy people buying homes by the HUNDREDS purely to let them out. This drives up house prices and rental prices. Become passionate about restrictions on BTL and then maybe you can become passionate about stopping giving houses to immigrants.

Benefits: Most immigrants want to work, and they know they can earn a lot more money working 50 hours a week for minimum wage than they can claiming benefits. It's been proven immigrants are net contributors to our economy, something which we need as our population ages and the dependency ratio worsens. Anger should be aimed towards the super wealthy who dodge taxes and contribute nothing to our society, and also businesses and the government who have a nice little agreement to avoid billions a year. £120BN in tax revenue which is lost through evasion, avoidance and uncollected taxes. A further £90bn break given to large corporations by governments. A few billion on immigrants is nothing compared to this.

I may need to educate myself because the only words I can think of in reply to this post are, pompous, condescending, arrogant socialist and cobblers

It would be nice if this discussion was helped along with genuine facts.

It might seem hard to believe but I'd happily build a wall, pop a dingy, make a giant trebuchet, if I thought "millions of Turks" are heading our way, along with house stealing, handout grabbing, criminal freeloaders.

But as it stands, I'm sorry I'm just not buying into the xenophobia.

I think it's appalling that such an important issue as the next leader of the conservative party, sorry I mean membership of the EU (what was I thinking) is being fought out by such divisive scare tactics, without every representing the bigger picture.

The current scale of migration to the UK, 330,000 a year, of which roughly half is from the EU, is completely unsustainable.

As a result of this mass immigration our population is projected to rise by half a million every year – the equivalent of a city the size of Liverpool – for as long as immigration is permitted on the present scale.

England is already twice as crowded as Germany and 3.5 times as crowded as France.

The additional population growth makes congestion worse and adds to the pressures on public services. This comes at a time when public spending is being reduced.

One in four children born in England and Wales is to a foreign born mother. The rise in the number of births has put pressure on NHS maternity services.

It has also led to a shortage of school places. 60% of local authorities will have a shortage of primary school places by 2018.

The UK has a serious housing crisis. Mass immigration is the main reason for the additional demand. We must build a new home every six minutes for the next 20 years to accommodate the additional demand for housing from new migrants.

Population growth on this scale renders integration of newcomers virtually impossible.

Three quarters of the public want to see immigration reduced and half of them want it cut by a lot.

http://www.migrationwatchuk.org/briefing-paper/377

Feel free to dispute any of the above. There is a completely legitimate, real concern about the rate of immigration and the effects it has on our country.

More on housing - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36262372

Schools - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36260947 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/05/07/migration-pressure-on-schools-revealed/

The EU is also giving Turkey €4.5 Billion to help them reach the required EU entry standard which is either a complete waste of money (some of it ours) or it means Turkey will join the EU at some point in the future.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-eu-referendum-36153200

There are studies showing a net economic benefit from recent immigration and others saying the opposite.

My view is some Immigration is beneficial but it's all about the scale and rate of change, our ability to cope, integration and the problems associated with not having any control in limiting 50% of it. This for me is the big picture.

If you can't see how it's relevant to the security threats you're a bit dim. I'll repeat it though. The ONLY terrorist attack to happen in this city post-war was by an English speaking white Irishman who could still waltz in here without a passport if we left the EU tomorrow. However, the brown skinned ones who don't speak English are generally escaping ISIS.

Is that clear enough?

I think dim is you. I seem to remember there being £2 million Irish in the UK in the 80s, thats 4 years worth of immigration today. The Estimate of Active IRA members was 5,000, extreme Islamic sympathisers 375,000 as estimate of 15% of islamic immigration, daily arrests and threat increasing.

So no, your muddied, selective and irrelevant post is not clear at all.

What, like all this civil unrest that occurs each time a lorry pulls over on the A23 or the M20 and a dozen people pop out??

I mean it'll be the cue for a constant stream of boats to attempt the crossing. Which will result in a horrendous number of deaths on our coastline, and cause utter chaos in the worlds busiest shipping lane.

Amazing these urban myths survive in the face of endless proofs to the contrary.
I understand why people want to believe them to some degree - much as people latching on to conspiracy theories or voting for Donald Trump - but it's still just a little sad.
They arent urban myths at all, they dont become illegal immigrants once they're caught , they are magically transformed into asylum seekers

..... A windup right as it is not actually entirely true even if you know the difference (or it matters) - some are, many aren't. They are held while being assessed - admittedly not in tents but little different to Greece, Turkey, Macedonia, Bulgaria, France .......... perhaps we are more compassionate in how we accommodate them although that is highly questionable beyond meeting minimum physical needs but then we have a lot lot less to manage than most nations.
As it is many can't simply be "repatriated" whether because there is no documentary proof where to send them, or often because their lives are in danger if they do return.
Of course there is a massive difference between political and economic migrants. I know Spaniards who are royally pissed at the English taking over their costas!

Are you saying that newspaper reports that the Albanians rescued in the English channel a few days ago are now claiming asylums here is an urban myth ?

You make an interesting point. There are normally numerous layers to the terrorist threat/appeasement/apologists.

Group one: The terrorists - Tiny Minority

Group Two: Support Network willing to help - Small minority

Group Three: Supporters of the cause verbal but wouldn't actively participate - bigger minority

Group Four: Apologists who try to make excuses for terrorism, sympathetic with their aims but not the methods - Even bigger minority

Group Five: Apologists for the apologists, morally bankrupt, willing to overlook virtually anything, hypocrites - numerous in number found in the most surprising of places.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good scare story.
