Not worth it's own thread, but the cost of hiring a band in 1971...

Slade £150!
Yes £500!
Family £1,000!
Loads of bands I've never heard of - various!

That reminds me that, in a crossover with the nicknames thread, there was once a barman in the Golden Cross on Portland Road who had huge mutton chop sideburns and a penchant for dropping glasses. My mate Bob nicknamed him "Mungo Jerry". Take a 0 off their price and that's probably what he cost his employers per shift.

Great thread.

If I was to stay the age I am now then The Specials and The Stranglers.

If I was to go back to the age I was then I will add Adam and the Ants, just to be ahead of almost everyone at my school who saw them later at the Brighton Centre (plus the current age me would find it interesting to see if they were doing any Dirk Wears White Sox stuff as well or if this was, as I suspect, a Kings of the Wild Frontier preview show with those songs possibly a bit rawer)

Here's the setlist from that gig. Good mix of Kings and earlier stuff

£2168 in modern money. And they hadn't even released a single at that point.

Love Affair for the same price though. Not bad.
