Albion have confirmed an interest in transfer-listed Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp.
Doncaster, Swindon and Notts County are also all keen on the former Scunthorpe marksman, according to a report in the backward county of Yorkshire.
Albion assistant Dean White said today: "We have got to be interested in anyone with his pedigree for scoring goals at this level.
"Whether we would be able to afford him and he would want to come is another thing but we are looking at that."
White was noncommittal when asked about a possible loan deal for former England midfielder Nicky Butt from Newcastle.
"Newcastle are a big club, and pay big wages. We could not use our playing budget for someone on Nicky's money, but there are sometimes sponsors out there, so who knows?"
White also claimed Albion are "in the driving seat" to sign Crawley defender Jake Wright.
He revealed: "Russell (manager Russell Slade) is dealing with that at this very moment and hopefully we'll have some news a bit later on.
"We know there is interest from other clubs but we are in the driving seat really, because we've had the lad in and he likes what we've seen. We just now need to ram that one home."
The Seagulls have, meanwhile, ended their interest in crap trialists Danny Spiller and Andres Chronis.
Spiller has vowed to return to the music industry, and may be linking up again with slightly slant eyed MILF Sophie Ellis-Bextor for a remix of his 2000 number 1 single 'Groovejet', with Johnny Dixon on maraccas.
