Last year, I turned £30 into £122 in a week, courtesy of some stupendous lay betting.

Back in the seventies, walked into a bookies in Brighton. Had £1 in my pocket and no more money! Picked out three horses in a treble and was just about to put the bet on when I realised I had no food at home. Screwed up the betting slip and walked out. Spent the £1 on bread, baked beans and some other small bits.
The treble came up at 180-1.
Nothing to do with the post really, just thought I would recount a ' near miss '

Turned £25 into £850 at the end of last season. During Euro 2012, I turned that £850 into £0 (bloody Germans)

Most I've won out of the football was last years FA Cup. 5 quid turned into 175 with an accumulator. I'm definitely 'down' in total of all football bets though.

£5 on the crack machines no word of a lie walked out of storrington corals with £1450 in half an hour. I knew that would never happen again so have never put a penny in ever since.

I once took up one of those free £40 bet if you join a betting website, put it on a 40 to 1 outsider as I liked the name of it and it won, £1600 smackers in my account. I was pretty good and only had a couple of small bets before withdrawing it and closing the account.

I think it may have been the day I was walking down Edward Street with nothing in my pocket, and found a fiver outside Lumleys. The choice was a half pound of sherbet pips, some nut brittle and a can of coke or a win treble bet on the horses.....the horses all won (at 2-20, 2-30 and 2-45) and I ended up with £1430. I booked a holiday to Tenerife the same afternoon :lolol:

I was once in a casino watching a friend of mine win a fair amount on Blackjack. I'd already cashed in my chips, reasonably comfortable with my £75 profit, and was watching him on the roulette table.

He gave me a £100 chip and told me to carry on gambling, and as I turned around to see if he was being serious, a friend sitting the other side of me stuck it on #5. Before I could do anything about it I was £3600 up.

I dropped £1000 to the friend on my left, £500 to the friend on my right, and had a fantastic 2 week family holiday that didn't cost me a bean.

For solely a bet I had something like £1.50 on lomana lua lua to score 1st in a 3-1 loss against spurs and collected £315.00

in an hour on roullette on skyvegs i turned £25 into £930 before settling on £750.

All down hill from there.

$50 into about $3600 for winning the Pick6 on Breeders' Cup night at Santa Anita in 2008. It paid $59,800 for the $2 winning line.

There were a dozen or so people in the bet, all in the front row of a box right above the winning line. As Frankie Dettori came back after winning the Classic on Raven's Pass, he could see us all going loopy and gave us a big wave.

I think he thought we were just happy for him.

Biggest win by far I ever had at the dogs was when, with drink taken, my voice was somewhat impedimented and the tote lady ended up giving me the wrong combination bet on the wrong numbers. I gave her something like £1.60 and five minutes later she handed me back something like £140.

Back in 1999? I was working for Hills, almost all the staff would have a daily bet just to keep your interest up on the afternoons business. I strolled down to Fine Bookmakers at the bottom of Preston Street and had a 5p E.W Yankee with the last 1.10 I had in my pocket. All four horse came up, a nag called Cool Enough winning the last race of the day by the shortest of short heads. Collect £155 and treated myself to a newpair of Seb Coe Diadoras
