20 years old and already called up to the Dutch national squad. Sounds promising .

Anyone seen him play?

What about the Dutch keeper we already have?

Scherpen hasn’t really been impressive, neither for us nor particularly on his loans.

He got called up last minute to the Dutch squad as a backup one time this season, much to the dismay of Eredivisie fans whose reaction was predominantly “really? Was nobody better available?”

I expect he’ll be moved on this summer. Rushworth and Beadle are more exciting imo.

The barest of bare bones from Transfermarkt would suggest he's hardly shithouse.

For a team that costs £20,000,000 less than Marc Cucurella.

As Hugo says clean sheets don't come into it anymore.

really promising talent, one of the higher rated young keepers in the world, actually. quite a similar playing style to neuer. would be a good buy, but you’d imagine that’d be curtains for rushworth

The bare bones suggest that his market value has actually dropped while he's been on loan!

Why? If this guy is good he'll get sold in a couple of years just when Rushworth is ready for Premier League football

think it could be more beadle by that point. rushworth is going to need regular first team footy at a decent level pretty imminently, and obviously as you say if this guy is good he could be sold quite quickly and we loan out rushworth for the time being, but what if verbruggen takes 3-4 seasons to reach that level? fact is that buying a goalkeeper that young means we just don’t know, and rushworth will be in limbo the entire time
