Ry Cooder, Duane Allman, Carlos santana, Steve Hillage, Ali Farka Toure, Django Reinhardt..... but none of these are particularly noisy

That's OK. I wasn't particularly after noise, just quality.

Peter Green - as in the original Fleetwood Mac. was held by some as the best Blues guitarist of his generation - above Clapton. This track came up on another thread on here as some people's suggestion as "the best Song ever written"

I can't disagree with what you have had already but here are three you haven't had yet: Robert Fripp, Vini Reilly and Rory Gallagher, all wonderful and all very different (wait until you hear some Frippertronics!)

Angus Young , Dave Gilmour , Micheal Schenker ..........................

The only trouble with this is , I saw an AC/DC tribute band at the Concorde , and their Angus character pretty much matched the great man himself. So I will add the bloke from Dirty DC as well.
