I agree with this. Some " fans " have very short memories!

Quote, but then we must welcome the new Albion fans, they know no better, hopefully they'll learn a bit about the dark days and begin to understand.

The reason is (was) to show respect to all the fans of clubs all over the country that supported us at a time when we needed it, when they helped out by signing petitions, protesting alongside us, canvassing those who would have seen us disappear. Then again, there's not that many of us who'd understand that.

Anyway, that's the reason.

When the **** was this announced then because I missed it completely?

Its great. The Liverpool fans often clap their opposition and its always appreciated and commented on. I'm glad we do something similar, any old shower of shite club can boo but it takes a bit of class to give them a bit of appreciation.

I'm all for it. Classy on the field and off of it.

Ahh ok so it's something we've stolen off those "classy" Liverpool fans?

I'm glad Superhil has taken it upon himself to seemingly talk on behalf of our whole fan-base. Does he know that's the reason everyone applauds when they do? "there's not many of us who'd understand that". Absolute bollocks. I've supported Brighton long enough to know what it means and when it's appropriate to thank people for their support over the years - and a ripple of applause during a match isn't exactly appropriate.

I used to give an ironic clap. I am sure there are a multitude of reasons why some might clap.

What's with the 'not many of us who'd understand that' and the official reasoning you purport?

**** sake, the 'official reasoning' I mentioned is the official club line on this, I merely pointed it out.

I don't remember us clapping away attendances at the Withdean when it was a) a much less attractive proposition and b) we needed the money a lot more?

So WHEN was it then because like I said I've heard NOTHING and looking at it I'm not alone.

Read the comments from insider on this thread, read other publications that make this point. Then, when you still decide you won't accept it , well do whatever the **** you want.

I might on occasion applaud a handful of Barnsley fans that have made their way on a Tuesday night, I've never quite understood, the "worst support we've ever seen" or "is that all you take away?" etc, surely the abuse/piss taking should be aimed at those NOT there, not the ones that have got off their arse

I'm sure plenty who boo or don't clap were around when we were not playing in such a great stadium.

Champagne socialists are what some of us have become.

I think it is out of thanks for the support all the other 91 clubs (not to mention other non-league) showed the Albion when it was needed. Let's not forget the Valentine's Day flower show in Whitehall, letters, marches, Fans United. We had a lot of support from other clubs, surely the least our fans can do is applaud the opposing fans for making the effort to come. Fair enough when Ipswich (remember that banner) or Palace got a boo, but the other clubs, I love the fact Albion fans clap them.

It's bloody expensive going away these days. I applaud the away fans if they seem a decent bunch. I'm a football fan before I'm a Brighton fan

These but akso because we (well some of us) have class.

I've taken to yelling out 'LIARS!' whenever they announce the inevitable 27,218 'attendance' when there's clearly five thousand less souls actually there. And yes I do know it goes on tickets sold. If they're smart enough to break down the crowd into home and away fans, they're also smart enough to break the home crowd down into attended/did not attend figures - and to announce the 'attended' figure, which is all anyone at the ground really cares about.

Wasn't a great turn out from the Hudds faithful this week anyway. Crap weather and a few days before Christmas isn't an acceptable excuse is it? Loads around me applauded them but I didn't. No reason other than, why should I?

No one is clapping the number. I'd sooner clap 5 Carlilse fans than 5000 Fulham. Fair play to the Huddersfield fans that made it. Difficult time of the year to do an away game.
