We've got a '56 plate X- Trail 2.2. Very happy with it, will be upgrading to a newer model soon.
My son has got a '64 plate Qashqai, and he is very happy with it.

Hmm, Qashqui one of the UK's best-sellers. Decent car, definitely not 'shit' -unless you're one of these people who thinks Skodas are still shit?
To the OP: unless you're planning to go off-road, I'd got for Qashqui over X-Trail.

Guy at work has a Qashqui, only 8 months old and is having to get the timing chain replaced!! Dealer told him this is the 3rd one they have had to do recently. But as long as you are not paying repairs suppose this doesn't matter.

Volvo XC 60 Nice car but low spec
basically any cars from Ford, Volvo , Mazda and nissan below 130 g per km
