Its a shitty situation for the bloke and maybe their should be exemptions made for ex service men but this is hardly newsworthy is it?

Visas get turned down all the time I am sure the fella knew the likely outcome when he started the process. I feel for him i really do but i don't think this decision should be upheld as any damning inditement of the immigration process. It is a decision made on (from what i can see) a fair and consistent ruling that his situation adhere to.

I agree its not newsworthy, however if you make an exemption for servicemen where does it end. Is there then a demand to exempt emergency services workers and so. At present the income limit should be known by those that which to bring partners here and is applied consistently to all.

The article says she tried to travel without a visa, & then complained at her treatment. He is then complaining that he'll have to live in America permanently.
Why can't he get a better paid job, & then reapply for the necessary visa?

It sits slightly uncomfotably with me that one of the key measurements for a UK passport holder to bring their spouse to the country is how much they earn - it seems entirely unfair. Why not instead prevent the partner from having access to any benefits for five years so they are not a drain on the taxpayer ? If they divorce then the ex-spouse is kicked out. This woman was a fool to travel without a visa but keeping a family apart doesn't seem very moral.

A hero soldier who fought in Afghanistan said he was being forced out of Britain by David Cameron.
Andrew McLaughlin’s American wife and daughter have been denied entry to the UK because of the government’s strict immigration rules on non-EU spouses.”

The key word here is "non-EU".

and i don't see why there shouldn't be exemptions for ex-military servants......these guys have put their lived on the line...!!

I put my life on the line every time I smoke a cigarette. Does that mean I should have special privileges?

The guy has put his life on the line, he shouldn't have to go through these hoops. It doesn't make sense when you see some of the criminals this country has let in from the EU in the past, and economic migrants who have links with extremists.

Being in the Army doesn't except you from immigration laws - it's a job after all, he didn't volunteer. The guy should have done his research if he didn't want this to happen. It's a shit situation though, one I can personally relate to, I just don't think it's newsworthy.

Perhaps not although being a convicted rapist it seems does provide the right to stay in the UK

No problem with that. 18k is not enough to support a family without state support.
Then he should get some fvcking state support , the key here is that he has CONTRIBUTED , or id certainly class fighting for vyour country as doing so.

The railways , youre always whining on about it.

I don't work for a rail company all, I'll say it to you though just to help the blood pressure it is a French company.

I notice there is no denial of the racist angle as well..............
