Rijksmuseum and Van Goph museums were very good, as was the canal boat ride. Eating out was extremely expensive so do some research on restaurants away from the touristy areas.

Meopham, Kent.
For me, the trip to Amsterdam is never complete without a spell sitting on an abandoned armchair, that has been precariously placed on a makeshift raft, in the middle of the canal.

It wasn't me you understand, and I won't mention names, but he's knows who he is.

Stayed here in October last year. Inexpensive, clean, friendly staff and fairly central without being slap bang in the middle of the nightlife.

One thing though - if you or anyone you are going with has a problem climbing stairs, do not go to this hotel!

Since I quit drinking I can't eat from them anymore. Weird - when I was drinking I thought they were the most fantastic invention in the world!

I must admit to getting withdrawal symptoms from frikandellen. I normally have at least one within the hour of arriving in Holland.

And a makeshift OAR from a plank of wood.
How I remained dry from that I'll never know.
