'Not Singing Any More'
Updated: 15:45, Monday October 16, 2006
Identical twin pop singers have been arrested after they let rip with a four-letter outburst at football fans.
Francine and Nicola Gleadall were at Hillsborough to perform their new single Cum On Feel The Noise in front a 29,000-strong crowd.
But the 18-year-olds were booed and taunted by Barnsley supporters as they sang at half-time during the match with home team Sheffield Wednesday.
The away fans hurled abuse at the girls who perform as Twin after the stadium announcer introduced the pair as "two girls from Sheffield", The Sun has reported.
Nicola apparently responded with an obscene gesture and told them to "f*** off".
The teenagers were arrested after spectators complained and after spending two hours at a local police station they were slapped with a £60 fixed penalty fine, the paper said.
They pair said afterwards: "Our actions were totally knee-jerk and when we heard the foul abuse being shouted at us from a crowd of 7,000, our natural defence mechanism took over.
"We apologise for offending anyone."
A spokesman for Sheffield Wednesday said: "The girls had been fully briefed by club officials not to interact with supporters during their performance."
