Choice vehicle rental do 8 seaters and when I hired one was a few hundred for a weekend, worth checking any local independent hire places not just the big chains.

My only other advice is to ensure you know exactly what vehicle you are hiring and space. People above have recommended Nissan Elgrand or Toyota Alphard - whilst they are 8 seats if you have 8 people the boot space is non existent for luggage / buggy / travel cot etc.

Car hire is unaffordable now, really not sure how any of these firms are still in business. Apparently it’s down to a lack of decent low mileage second hand cars. I was quoted nearly 600 quid for 3 days in Inverness recently! Hired a small van from Enterprise for 20 quid a day instead.

Use your ‘high performance SUV’ instead, whatever that means.

I'm struggling to understand why you would spend money leasing a 'high performance sports SUV' you can't afford to use. I hope the neighbours are impressed

If you took public transport, you could be a 'Bus W@nker', instead of just a normal one [emoji6]

I purchased a not high performance SUV (Land Rover Freelander2) for the sole purpose of using it. Could park it on my drive and wash it every weekend but the neighbours (everybody loves good neighbours) all have better cars than me.
Don't be tight. Show off your car and park it in the front of the hotel. Also of course, you'll get there quicker than the other group in their 'we own this, not on HP' car.

At the end of August/beginning of September 8 of us (7 adults 1 baby) will be travelling to Cornwall for 10 days from Manchester.
The current plan is to take our car and to hire another to give us enough seats for bums.

As my car is a high performance sports SUV it costs a fortune to run and is also leased with an annual mileage limit, I've been thinking about the cost effectiveness of hiring just one 8 seater vehicle and us all travelling together.

The pro's of this are that it could be quite fun all travelling in one vehicle. Only one lot of fuel to pay for. No mileage on my own car etc.
The cons are that I just went on the Avis car rental app and the calculatior told me it would be SIX THOUSAND POUNDS!!!

So, can the wise collective of NSC give me any suggestions or advice? We've no experience of travelling as a big family together before so never had to think about it. Am I missing anything?
Does anyone have any experience of hiring this type of vehicle? Have I done something wrong on the car hire app? Are there any companies who specialise in larger vehicles and might be a lit cheaper than £6k? Anyone work in car hire and care to quote me?

Thanks.

Oh and Potter Out!

7 adults and you are the only one with a car? Try Easyjet, Manchester to Newquay, you could fly 7 for less than the cost of hiring a car, without the cost of the petrol to get there and back, if the dates line up with availability.

That’s right.
Rental for just a small hatchback has risen to £110 per day from just £15 per-Covid.
I’m over here for 10 weeks based in Hove, flying in & out Gatwick a number times (currently in Prague) so I bought a 17 year old Nissan Micra for £1,150. Car rental whilst in the UK would of been of been over £5k.
And fortunately I picked an orange not a lemon.
Will be selling it towards the end of next week if anyone’s interested ?

I’m surprised there are 7 adults who want to go on holiday with you.

Not that it helps here, but a 9 seater is £92/day, £425/week from Parkers Hire in Haywards Heath.

No affiliation other than I recently rented a Corsa from them for a day for, IIRC, £42.

I've always used them (in Burgess Hill) for Vans whenever the kids have moved flats. Excellent
