The Jam Setting Sons ...Smithers Jones
Elvis Costello Armed Forces ...Olivers Army
The Specials The Specials ...Too Much Too Young
The Skids Absolute Game ...Circus Games
The Police Regatta de Bl ...Message in a bottle
Joe Jackson Look Sharp ...Is she really going out with him? 1979 so very sadly left out of the six

I could be wrong but reckon all or most of these were pre 80s releases.

N. Yorkshire
The Smiths - This Charming Man
The Lotus Eaters - The First Picture of You
The Meteors - The Crazed/Attack of the Zorch Men
The Beat - Mirror In The Bathroom
Echo and the Bunnymen - The Killing Moon
So tough to narrow it down to five. No Cocteaus or Jam or Chameleons etc. The Eighties had some right tunes and bands.

Don't believe Smithers Jones was a single
Olivers army was 1979
Message in a bottle was also 1979, unless the Six Pack singles edition (in blue vinyl) is permitted

Specials and Skids OK.
