Hi all. I had my first 'off' this morning (don't worry, I'm fine and the bike looks OK - but I'll give it a proper look over the weekend). Anyway, this got me thinking about insurance. Road bikes don't come cheap - even the entry level ones are a few hundred quid. Also, road biking does have its' dangers.
So, do you insure your bike? I'm wondering whether to just lump it onto the home insurance, so that it is covered against theft, or weather to get a specialist cycle insurance policy - which I guess will also insure me in the event of a serious accident. Is cycle insurance just a con?

British Cycling basic membership gives you 3rd party liability insurance included.
My bike is named and detailed on my home contents insurance for theft and accidental damage.
Glad you're ok, if it was a comedy fall, one of the rites of passage is to post all the details here, so we call all laugh at you.
We've all done it.
The CTC offer one of the better, if not the best specific cycling policy.
M&S insurance used to offer the best (I don't know if any better have come along in the last 5 years) 'umbrella' household policy that included cycling.

It was a comedy fall - There was no ice on the roads on my estate, so thought it was safe to ride. As soon as I got off my estate, the roads were quite icy. The fall itself happened at very slow speed, because I had spotted that it was getting icier and has slowed right down! It probably was quite funny to watch. As I was only a 5 minute walk from home, I returned home and drove in to work - clearly today is not a cycling day!
Fortunately, I had equipped myself with a fairly thick winter cycling jacket in the recent round of aldi cycling speciabuys and I was wearing winter tights, so I was pretty padded against the road when I slipped across it!
I always knew that falling off was a rite of passage - but I haven't even managed to get clipless pedals on yet, so I am sure there is plenty more falling comedy to be had when I try to get used to being 'attached' to the bike.

This is what I now have, although it been a long while since I have been out on a bike for a serious ride. Used to also be a CTC member but that lapsed. British Cycling also have other benefits like getting first dibs at track cycling tickets.

If you get insurance for your bike outside of the house, remember to get a 'gold standard' lock. It's normally tucked away in the small print and they won't cough up without proof you had one attached. Each policy will be different of course, just read all the terms and cons!

The worst thing about that bike is Dura-Ace.
Fishing tackle has no place on a Bianchi.
