F.u.c.k.i.n.g climate change who gives a monkeys right now? Seriously there's far more important issues.

Brexit
Economy
national security
Immigration

What? The impacts of climate change are already having an (and will, in future, have a massive) impact on the economy, migration and security.

1.6% of the vote

More than:
DUP
Sinn Fein
Plaid Cymru

Just a few less than UKIP

they also received more than half of the SNP vote

(and yes I definitely think that we should have a PR voting system that reflects this which would result in representation for UKIP)

So yeah...rejected by the electorate........

You missed out the Yorkshire Party, another localised party they also managed to beat in terms of total votes. And they absolutely mullered the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.

But yes, you're correct. Outside of Brighton Pavilion they were totally rejected by the electorate, 1.6% is truly pathetic; it barely even qualifies them as a 'minor' party.

Mind you they did do better than UKIP in terms of MPs. Perhaps Caroline Lucas can speak up for the truly disenfranchised and start adopting some UKIP policies? :)

Some of you need to be careful with what you're saying otherwise you'll be feeling the sharp side of TLO's tongue !

Eh? The Greens were a national party, all the ones you mentioned stood in localised areas. Go and look at the amount of votes the Green candidates got in all the constituencies they stood in, they got nowhere near the nationalist percentages.

Given how high-profile Lucas is and how she proved that Greens can win it's quite incredible to see how badly they do everywhere else.

But Brighton really isn't like anywhere else in the UK.

It's very interesting that the Greens got roughly half the number of votes as the SNP...

If they had a more centralist set of policies to go with the green policies they would get more of the floating voters.

Indeed - you'd expect Hove to be a Green area as Brighton Pav's direct neighbour but they were CRUSHED yesterday.

Yeah they should do better.

Brighton and Hove seems to be one of the few areas where people vote for the individual, rather than party. Kyle and Lucas do pretty well in representing us on local issues.
The Eastbourne LD guy has just got back in - he's another one who seems to put his constituents above party issues.
You get the impression that each of these would get in as independants.

I can only think she is a good MP to her electorate, regardless of policy, because the rest of the country gives a shit less.

I'm in Bristol West, their second target seat. Labour got 47K votes here- incredible, i think the largest swing in Labour history.
Two years ago the Greens got about 20K votes, this year about 9K. Young people, especially, simply couldn't risk (even if this was misguided) their vote diluting the Labour vote.
I feel like their message was weak, they realised that Labour produced an absolutely headline-grabbing manifesto with many Green-friendly policies and they had no way to counteract this.

'Why not vote for us, we are nice and our policies are similar to Labour but we also like the environment, though not as much as we used to, and we accept it isn't a priority for many, but we are nice, so why not?'

I'm beginning to think the best thing Lucas could do is become Environmental Minister (or whatever it's now called) for Labour- she is a vital, vital presence on the benches.

Is this a joke?

She would be a disaster. Price most people off the roads, ban everyone from air travel.

Meat Free Mondays one of her half witted schemes. She would try to take they joy out of life, all to fit in with her warped socialist ideologies.

It is not the governments business what I eat mate. It is just an example of Caroline Lucas trying to dicate her way of life on others.

She cannot see beyond her own way.

That is why she can do one.

Sorry to be arsey. I despise the woman. Had some not so happy dealings with her.

I think you'll find you're blaming the wrong person for Meat Free Mondays. It was the local Green party when running the local council that introduced it - not Caroline Lucas.

Lets face it all of the "other" parties are a waste of time and the reason we have a hung parliament now. Personally I think we should adopt French system. You'd keep the minor parties happy because they'd be able to have a go but get them out of the way before it actually matters.

I like Caroline Lucas but what has she actually achieved? Had a rant about page 3 and got nicked for protesting fracking.

Caroline Lucas is a seriously impressive local MP. Total and utter respect to the good doctor.

Tho would be an interesting experiment to see how she fared in a less leafy, more gritty constituency.

Pretty easy to vote Green (as I did) when you're surrounded by greenery.
