I would imagine by this, Gus means that somebody may come along (like Vicente) that isn't planned.

Roberto Carlos can bloody well swerve a ball. I thought he was given his own chopper in some crazy part of Russia, so he could easily come and go to play for each team in their bigger games. Down goes Barnes in a tight 1-1 draw in the 89th minute around 30 yards from goal. Up goes the substitute signal and on comes Carlos to whizzbang a mad one through a goalkeepers brains. Sorted.
