Bloody Worthing!
Rounded up, I’m on 564 miles for the year, so a good start after missing the first week of January due to illness.

March was a new record high in terms of miles 205.6 miles so feel in good form and hoping for a good time at Ardingly Monday.

Good to hear everyone is running well at the moment.

Which number race(s) are you and the Gaffer in? Looks like a huge field. Race reports eagerly anticipated......................

I'm in race 5. The last race with the women but even the mighty Big Nuts is down in Race 4. I'll be running against a Gasson rather than the Gasson. He's in Wave 4 and his teenage daughter is in my wave. I expect her to stick to family tradition and run off and not be seen till the finish.

1000hrs - Junior mile https://bit.ly/3sFs7qv
1030hrs - 5K elite men https://bit.ly/39qUdhu
1100hrs - 5K elite woman https://bit.ly/3sFM2W2
1130hrs - 5K race 3 https://bit.ly/2QSLZIG
1200hrs - 5K race 4 https://bit.ly/3fsRk3y

Big Nuts is duty bound to humiliate Gasson in Race 4!

You've got Cathy Ulliot and Caroline Wood to aim at.

3 months in and 370 miles done of my 1000 mile personal challenge, legs have been really achey this week, maybe jab related.

My knee felt like it had improved a fair bit yesterday, even after 20,000 steps over three dog walks so I took on my longest run since my fall and knee smash two weeks back.

Five Strava segement PBs including two all-time leaderboard top 10s suggest I probably pushed things a bit harder than I should have been doing, but it was wonderful to be out on the trails in the late afternoon sun, even if it was a bit gusty up high.

Delighted with 7.9 miles at an average 8.05/mile given the hill-climbing.

The key for me now is not to overdo it and set myself back.

Good news.

Interesting the reference to Strava as I've never really got into it but probably should have. So I noticed yesterday there's a Salvington Hill segment (King of the Mountain!).Is this one of your segments? I know you prefer off-road/trail so I'm assuming not.

I wouldn't say I prefer trail, but I do like having a mix of road and trail runs for variety.

I rarely run up Salvington Hill as it happens. Not because it's a big, steep hill, just that most of my routes don't take me that way.

My best on this - https://www.strava.com/segments/12574047 - is 4:50 but that was March last year, so I'd like to think I could better that by a fair bit now.

Cheers. I did it yesterday in 4.40 and I'm confident that you could eat this time for breakfast in your current form!

Cycling might be better as you don't wear out your joints in the process.

I'm not sure what wearing out the joints means but it's widely known through the benefits of science, that conducting in high-impact endurance activities such as running results in positive skeletal system development and bone health. Our weight-bearing bones respond to stress by adapting and reforming (increasing bone mineral density) to better handle that stress so over time the bones actually get stronger. Pretty amazing!

Sorry, running nerd alert...

Having fallen over running a number of times and fallen off a bike rather fewer, I'd opt for the former any day of the week. Therefore, proof beyond any doubt that cycling is worse for your 'joints' than running. Especially if you land on them.

PS how are you feeling in advance of Monday?

Well funny you should ask..... my wife got polymyalgia 3 weeks after her vaccination. Joint aches particularly in arms and thighs with no energy. My 💉 was a week later than hers and a week after her aching joints started I developed the same symptoms with headaches (this Wednesday). Incredible coincidence. At moment a 5k is out of the question but I hope I’ll wake Monday ok but will have to hold back a little. Not that there’s much leeway!

Sorry to hear this. Yes, give Monday a miss if it'll knock you back. There's still 10 weeks until the 10k showdown, so plenty of time to recover and reset the training.

Great improvement today and plan to turn up tomorrow. The chance to have a photo of me on a starting line as the only man amongst women is not to be missed. Tempted to wear the LGBT Nike Air Zoom!

Probably drop the adrenaline and kill myself attitude and go out and enjoy myself.............................if it's possible to enjoy myself whilst being overtaken by scores of women in a freezing northerly wind .

That's a very very very good AG you ran yesterday.
