I also think psychologically the thought of going in to bat 100% knowing that you have no chance of winning (like when you need near 500, rather than say 400 which is still very unlikely but a glimmer of hope remains) leaves you massively on the back foot from the start, hence the regular...
Good estimate of where we'll be at that point....don't need to speed up much to get another 100 between lunch and tea to put us about 430 ahead. In all likelihood will then have a quick dart after tea to try and add another 50 or so quickly, then stick them in for the long evening session.

Bit of a gamble (remember SA lost 7 wickets for f-all, and whilst 'one day' batting is fine, there wouldn't be a one-day field), and as you indicate contrary to just about everything you've ever posted on test match cricket :)

I played against them 2-3 years ago (div 6 I think). We got him caught off a no ball early on.............and actually got him out in the 12th over. For about 115.
Got it on in the background....BS and JB making it look like a different game on a different pitch at the moment. Aggressive stuff with some fantastic shots being played.
