    [Politics] Voter Identification.

Thank you for taking the trouble to find that article. It does provide some evidence for your point. I say ‘some’ because one study is never enough to draw conclusions. There would need to be other studies and in particular ones that might smooth out any America specific results. If you are...

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

We can certainly agree on your last sentence. I don’t think it is a serious suggestion by certain people but rather a bitter response to losing an election/vote. It never does their cause any good to be insulting the majority but they never seem to learn. By logical conundrum I just meant your...

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

So if this topic were discussed on a Bayern Munich message board you would like to think they would have fewer people wanting Germany to move away from the UK system of not requiring some form of voter ID (which they don’t have) to the German system of requiring some form of voter ID (which they...

We will have to agree to differ. This line suggests you don’t have much choice ; ‘ If you have forgotten your voter’s notification, you will have to show your identity card.’ Anyway, I think your system is better than both our current and prospective ones and clearly the EU doesn’t think it is a...

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

From those links it seems that you do not have to show proof of identity but can show your ID card instead if required. Pretty much amounts to the same thing.

Well, now I am confused ! Many Labour supporters (possibly including yourself) have said that Tory supporters are thick. If it turns out that those ‘lacking educational achievement’ are actually Labour supporters then we might as well delete the Hartlepool by election thread for a start.

I agree it’s not fraud. I would be a little concerned though about more vulnerable people than your uncle being driven to polling stations by activists. Having said that you can’t legislate against people getting lifts.

I posted this link in post 384 https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/germany/moving/voting Is it wrong ?

Brexit isn’t mine and it isn’t about the things you mention. I don’t say we should slavishly follow Europe but I do agree with many structures they have. Not wanting to be in the EU doesn’t mean rejection of everything European.I just think it odd that you condemn the UK but not Europe so you...

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

The actual voting system doesn’t matter too much in this context though (although I realize there are powerful arguments on both sides of that separate debate). Surely what matters here is the daftness of ID being right for elections but wrong for everything else. A lot of people have made the...

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

But that isn’t true. https://www.angloinfo.com/how-to/germany/moving/voting How to vote A short time before the election a voting information card (Wahlbenachrichtigung) is sent to voters. On polling day, go to the appropriate polling station taking: Voter registration card (Wahlschein) Proof...

So would you support voter ID if we had PR ? It seems like two separate issues to me as I can’t see how it is voter suppression with FPTP and nothing to complain about with PR. That’s a decent point. We are at risk of conflating different issues but this whole storm could just be calmed by...

So presumably you also think that votes are suppressed in countries like Germany where voter ID already exists ? Fair enough if you do by the way although I don’t agree.

I have needed mine for work, for identification for solicitors when buying houses, applying for mortgages, for organizing a power of attorney and signing a rental contract. Those are just off the top of my head.

No, just thick. I bow to your superior opinions

    [Politics] Voter Identification.

I see lots wrong with the current Government so that certainly doesn’t apply. I’m a big believer in responsibility, community and society and can’t abide libertarianism. I am in favour of more state intervention in the economy and think that everybody should play their part in society. I don’t...

No, what I do see though is the same people and politicians pushing this conspiracy theory as the ones who push Tory corruption conspiracies. Quite a co-incidence don’t you think ? My experience living abroad simply informs me that photo ID/ID cards etc are pretty standard in most places.

Agreed that the Government should provide this support

Because lots of people on the internet have complained that many old people don’t have photo ID ? I agree it shouldn’t matter.

So the obvious conclusion would be to support those ethnic minorities in acquiring photo ID. That would help them take part in and get the most out of society. Are there any organizations doing so ?
