The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

I totally agree with this. Very impressed by Butterfield whenever I have seen him, whereas Clayton to me is Crofts with slightly better passing range.

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Butterfield is a bloody good player IMHO, at least on a par with Clayton. If he isn't another professional northerner then we could do worse than to go after him if refuses the move to Uddersfield.

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Excellent. Sums up exactly how I feel. I would love this to be on the backdrop to the Q&A session at the forum tonight! Or the mission statement on the new club shop livery!

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Not true. That would rely on him being completely open with us from day one. He may have been interested, until someone closer to home came in for him.

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Just to bring fact to this thread - Middlebrough is 119 miles from Manchester as opposed to Brighton which is 257 miles. He chose the lesser of two evils for a professional northerner I assume.

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

In the example of Glenn Murray he has a step son who's Dad is Brighton based. I imagine that in this instance legally they are not allowed to take the kid up North. What's to say Clayton doesn't have a similar personal situation?

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

I said this on the thread about Glen Murray - it is easy to forget that footballers, certainly at our level and lower, are human beings and have a family life like the vast majority of us that procludes from simply uprooting our kids/wife, dependant parents etc... Middlesbrough may have made a...

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

I think Forest would be a threat to us on this deal - if only from a geographical perspective. But I hadn't read anywhere of their interest.. What have I missed?

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

I really hope we've told them that if the deal isn't done by the Thursday they can go fck themselves and we'll move onto other targets. Why is it that when other clubs want our players we aren't able to say "yes you can have him, but can you just wait for an indeterminate amount of time until...

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

Agree with this. Would prefer Baldock. Have heard from a decent source that we have a couple of options on the 20+ striker - both in the Ulloa mould in terms of being "unknown" from European leagues.

Better than Crofts? Really!?? And I think long term JFC will be a far better player than Clayton, so he should continue to be given the opportunity off the bench and the odd start this season.

Sorry, meant Stephens. Getting my Dales mixed up, at least it wasn't Winton.

The Adam Clayton saga - now officially signed for Middlesbrough

I do think he'd be a good signing and we've been continually linked with him so think there could be something in this rumour. That said, not sure that he is significantly better in the box to box type position than we already have like Crofts, Stephens or JFC. I would say we should be looking...
