I can only see us winning with the fortune of a cloudy morning and swinging conditions- as well as winning good tosses. We can bowl them out in the right conditions. The problem is good weather and flat pitches. Still, we'll win the usual Oval test when it's a dead rubber.
Harmison/Hoggard & Broad/Anderson were all effective in pushing us up the test rankings.
Statham and Trueman didn't actually play together in that many tests did they ?
Sessions like this make me realise how starved we are in the bowling department. Anderson can still cut it at the highest level, but has never been outstanding against Australia. Broad gets a lot for not many in one Test, and then fades out for many more.
It tends to work one of both ways, but I think that is true of a captain in any position. Graham Gooch's average as skipper was phenomenal, he thrived on it. I agree with what you say about bowlers though.
