Fortunately I think they realise that and don't play anything they've written in the last 40 years live*.

More generally, I just don't see the point in going "urgh, they're old!" at bands or musicians. Yeah, they are. What are they meant to do, retire at 30 and take up chartered accountancy? They should do whatever they like, whether that means playing old material or more recent dreary cobblers, and if people are willing to pay money to see and listen then all power to them.

* I am moderately fond of this track from that album The Who released in around 2006. For the guitar playing, the lyrics are Townshend's usual post mid-70s overwritten mush.

The Jam have such an amazing back catalogue that it's almost impossible to choose, and your favourite can change depending on mood, time of day, where you are, and a million other factors.
Currently for me it's Life From a Window.

I love that it mentions the 'post office tower' too, dunno why. BT Tower just sounds so wrong.

'This Is The Modern World' got slammed by a lot of music critics (what do they know). It was different to 'In The City', but I thought it was great. For a bit of fun, I sometimes play the intro to Tonight At Noon to my granddaughter where it starts eggs eggs eggs ... poached boiled or fried ... they're good for the old ... (farting noise) :D

There are so many good songs I expect they like to mix it up a bit. Personally my fav from the list is 'In the City' but its a short song so not ideal to finish with i suggest.
